Why Bet On Oregon State To Beat Michigan (-17)
The Beavers look to continue the Pac-12’s success in the Big House.
Based on the final score, it looks like Oregon State underperformed in its first game of the season. The Beavers only scored 26 points in a 26 to 7 win over Weber State. Oregon State was favored by over 27 points. The victory doesn’t look that great.
Then again, looks can be deceiving. What Oregon State did was run the football at will versus Weber State. Oregon State used their offensive line to push Weber State around. The fact that they only won by 21 points doesn’t mean much when handicappers realize that the Beavers rushed for 281 yards and a 5.0 average.
If Oregon State gets anywhere close to those numbers versus Michigan in Jim Harbaugh’s second game as coach of the Wolverines, Michigan fans could be calling for the athletic director to give Harbaugh his walking papers. The Beavers’ offensive line has done a great job so far this season. They played against Weber State, but their coach, Gary Andersen, is used to coaching teams that run the football. He came over to Oregon State after coaching Wisconsin last season.
Why Bet On Michigan (-17) To Beat Oregon State
Harbaugh’s training wheels are off.
Although Michigan lost 17 to 24 to Utah in Jim Harbaugh’s first game as head coach, the former San Francisco 49’ers’ HC did a very good job. The truth is that Harbaugh simply doesn’t have the players that Utah has. He does have the players, maybe even some that are better, than what Oregon State coach Gary Andersen has.
Harbaugh will coach a brilliant game this Saturday versus the Beavers. He coached a brilliant game versus a much more talented team on the road in Utah in Week 1. Harbaugh had Michigan in the game well into the second half. In fact, Michigan had a chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter. The difference is that he simply doesn’t have the players yet to beat a squad like Utah.
Versus Oregon State, it should be a different story. This is going to be a great football game between 2 coaches who believe in playing smash mouth football. Oregon State will run the football while Harbaugh will counter with running of his own and short passes to the running backs and wide receivers in the flat.
Don’t expect Michigan to cover the 2+ touchdown college football betting spread in this one. Andersen is a good coach. He’s going to play keep away with Harbaugh. Michigan will win, but this game will be close. 63% of the betting public agrees with me. My final score prediction is Michigan 24, Oregon State 20.
