Bet The Penn State Nittany Lions at +11 Because…

Let’s be honest about it…Penn State has absolutely nothing to lose in this contest, so they should be going all-out to get the win, possible against the Spartans backup signal-callers.

The Nittany Lions  (7-4 SU, 4-7 ATS) have dropped two straight games in falling to Northwestern two weeks ago and Michigan 28-16 last weekend while failing to cover the spread as a 3.5-point road underdog.

Talented quarterback Christian Hackenberg had a miserable performance in getting limited to just 137 passing yards in the loss as he faced almost constant pressure from the Wolverines’ voracious defense.  The Nittany Lions were also held to just 70 rushing yards in the loss.

"No one really can question Christian Hackenberg’s mental or physical toughness," coach James Franklin told reporters, "and we have got to get our protection and our run game more consistent to help him out."

Franklin went on to speak on how his team shouldn’t need any motivation in this matchup.

"Michigan State is an experienced football team, a talented football team, so it should be a tremendous challenge," Franklin said. "But I know our guys are fired up about it. We’ve got a great opportunity on Saturday. There will be no way to send these seniors out better than to find a way to get a win on Saturday and go into the postseason with a lot of momentum."

Bet The Michigan State Spartans at -11 Because…

Michigan State has won two straight and got arguably their biggest win of the season by taking down Ohio State 17-14 to easily cover the spread as a 14.5-point road underdog.

Making the Spartans’ huge win even more impressive is the fact that the Spartans got the job done with two backup quarterbacks. Michigan State got the win on 41-yard field goal as time expired to beat the then No. 2 Buckeyes.

The Spartans playing the entire contest without star quarterback Connor Cook who sat out with a shoulder injury.

Spartans coach Mark Dantonio Cook’s status for Saturday will likely be a game-time decision. "We’ll see how it shakes out," Dantonio said. "Sort of hard to say. … I would assume things are moving forward."

With a win, the Spartans can clinch the Big Ten East Division and advance to a matchup in the Big Ten Championship game against Iowa.

Junior signal-caller Tyler O’Connor went 7-of-12 for 89 yards with one touchdown against Ohio State while sophomore Damion Terry rushed eight times for 25 yards.

Running back Gerald Holmes has scored a rushing touchdown in four straight games.

"We know how to win. We understand how to win," said Dantonio, whose team didn’t lead until zeros showed on the clock in the wins over the Wolverines and Buckeyes. "Now you have to do that, but we do understand what it takes to win. We understand how to play until the end of the game."

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction

53 percent public bettors that like Penn State to cover the spread as double-digit road dogs and so do I!

While I don’t think there’s much of a chance that the Spartans will get upset and suffer an outright loss, I do like the Nittany Lions to keep the final score closer than the odds on this Week 13 matchup.

I know Penn State is just 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games and a dismal 0-7-1 ATS in their last eight road games, but the road team in this series is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and again, I believe Penn State will find a way to keep the final score respectable at the very least.

My Pick: Michigan State 28 Penn State 20
