The fourth-ranked Michigan Wolverines will get their first ‘real’ test of the season when they host a young and hungry Penn State Nittany Lions team that is far more competitive than any of Michigan’s first three opponents this season.

Bet The Penn State Nittany Lions at +16.5 Because…
The Nittany Lions won a hard-fought battle against Temple 34-27 despite failing to cover the spread as an 8.5-point home favorite.
Quarterback Trace McSorley completed 18 of 24 passes for 287 yards with one touchdown and one interception while running back Saquon Barkley rushed nine times for 68 yards and one score and has totaled six touchdowns through three games. Defensively, Penn State is allowing a generous 27.3 points and 345 yards per game.
Bet The Michigan Wolverines at -16.5 Because…
Michigan overcame a 21-7 first quarter deficit to beat Colorado 45-28 on Saturday despite failing to cover the spread by just a half-point. Quarterback Wilton Speight completed 16 of 30 passes for 229 yards and one touchdown and the Wolverines scored three rushing touchdowns in the win.
The Michigan Wolverines ground game is averaging 197.6 yards per contest, and Chris Evans leads the way with 157 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Michigan is allowing 15 points and 296 yards per game. Jabrill Peppers leads the Wolverines with 28 tackles, Mike McCray has 2.5 sacks and Channing Stribling has one interception. Defensively, Michigan allowed three passing scores and never recorded a turnover.
Expert ATS Pick & Final Score Prediction
While Penn State is undoubtedly not in the same caliber of legitimate title contenders as Michigan, I just don’t see the Wolverines blowing out their Big Ten rivals in this contest.
The Nittany Lions are just 3-13-2 ATS in their last 18 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall while the Wolverines have gone 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss.
Still, I like the way Penn State’s offense has operated this season and I’m not overly impressed with Michigan’s pedestrian offensive attack.
The bottom line for me is that I believe this Big Ten battle is going to be a lot closer than the high spread, making the Nittany Lions the easy pick to cover the college football betting line.
