Welcome to rivalry season and there is no bigger event this weekend than Michigan travelling to East Lansing to try to defend the Paul Bunyan trophy against a pesky Spartan squad. Miami and Florida State will try to bring glory back to Sunshine State football as they go head to head.
This may be the best week of college football so far this season and with that here are my rivalry week college football betting picks.
The Michigan Wolverines (6-1 SU, 4-3 ATS) lit up the scoreboard in their 63-47 Week 8 win over
Indiana as they easily covered the spread as an 8.5-point home favorite. Unfortunately, I don’t see them beating their longtime, in-state rivals, the Michigan State Spartans (7-1 SU, 4-3-1 ATS) in this intriguing matchup.
You see, Michigan State is coming off a resounding 42-3 win against Illinois on Saturday that helped them cash in as a 7.5-point home favorite while improving to 3-1 ATS over their last four games.
More importantly, not only have the Spartans been lighting up the scoreboard lately, but they’ve also been playing some outstanding defense in limiting their opponents to a grand total of three points over their last two games.
Michigan State had won four straight – until last season that is. Now, the Spartans will also be looking for some payback after falling to the Wolverines 12-10 on the road last season.
Michigan is 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings and doesn’t have nearly the defense that Michigan State does. Besides, Michigan State has compiled a robust 20-8-1 ATS mark in their last 29 games against a team with a winning record.
The Pick: Michigan State -3.5 Points
The 15th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders (7-1 SU, 5-3 ATS) will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they take on an 18th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-1 SU, 4-3 ATS) team that is looking to extend its recent winning ways.
Oklahoma State looked phenomenal in spanking Iowa State 58-27 on Saturday to easily cover the NCAAF betting line as a 13.5-point road favorite.
Texas Tech comes into this contest with two great reasons to win. The Red Raiders are looking to remain unbeaten at home this season – and bounce back from its discouraging 38-30 Week 9 road loss to Oklahoma on Saturday.
For this contest, I am going to have to take the Oklahoma State Cowboys to pull off the big road upset, seeing as how they jus exploded for nearly 60 points this past weekend – and have pretty much owned the Red Raiders by going 4-0 ATS over the last four meetings.
Texas Tech is 1-5 ATS in their last half-dozen games against teams with a winning record and an abysmal 1-10 ATS in its last 11 games against a team with a winning road record. Oklahoma State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following an SU win and I believe they’ve got the good to stay hot with a huge road win in this one.
The Pick: Oklahoma State -2.5 Points
The Miami Hurricanes (7-0 SU, 4-3 ATS) are undefeated and have played exceptional football all season long. Unfortunately, they haven’t faced a team – or quarterback – quite like they will when they take on the similarly undefeated Florida State Seminoles in a meaningful Week 10 battle that will have huge postseason implications for both teams.
Miami is coming off a narrow 24-21 win over Wake Forest in Week 9 but never came close to cashing in for their betting backers as a whopping 26-point home favorite to fall to 0-2 ATS over the last two games.
Florida State (7-0 SU, 5-2 ATS) rolled all over North Carolina State in its convincing 49-17 Week 9 rout of North Carolina State . The Seminoles did however; fail to cover the spread as a crazy, 34-point home favorite to halt a modest two-game ATS winning streak.
Did You Know that three of the last five meetings between Florida State and Miami have be been decided by four points or less?
Game Analysis: For this intriguing Week 10 matchup, I am going to take advise college football bettors to take the Miami Hurricanes to easily cover the spread as they turn this matchup into a bit of a dogfight to cover as three—TD road dogs.
Miami has a bunch of positive trends going for them, like the fact that they’re 5-1 ATS in their last six games against teams with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last six road games against the Seminoles.
The underdog in this ACC rivalry is a perfect 11-0 ATS in the last 11 meetings while the road team has gone 6-1 ATS in the last seven matchups.
Keep it simple and back the Miami Hurricanes to cash in against gifted freshman quarterback Jameis Winston and the Florida State Seminoles, though I don’t see them actually having a chance to win outright.
The Seminoles are just 2-2 ATS in the four games they’ve been favored by at least 21 points this season and the hatred for this rivalry runs deep and generally causes for a bunch of close finishes.
The Pick: Miami +21 Points
