Rivalry Week Free Betting Pick Arizona State Vs ArizonaJosh Bailey
Arizona State versus Arizona is one of the unsung great rivalries in all of college football. The teams have battled each other for desert supremacy since 1899. The winner gets the Territorial Cup.
This year’s game has extra meaning because Arizona and Arizona State, should UCLA lose straight up to Stanford, will be fighting for a berth in the Pac 12 Championship game. Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA are all tied in the Pac 12 South at 6 and 2. If UCLA loses to Stanford, Arizona or ASU could end up battling Oregon for the title.

It would be interesting if Arizona were to beat Arizona State and then take on the Ducks in the Pac 12 Championship. The Wildcats are the only team to have beaten the Ducks this season. Most college football fans are probably hoping that Arizona pulls off the win, UCLA loses, and the Wildcats do meet Oregon in the final.

But ASU is not going to make things easy. Up until two weeks ago, the Sun Devils were knocking on the Selection Committee’s door for a spot in the College Football Playoff. ASU absolutely decimated Notre Dame in a phenomenal 55 to 31 win. At the time it could have gone down as one of the biggest wins in ASU history, but the Sun Devils lost the very next week to Oregon State 27 to 35 as a -7 point road favorite and Notre Dame has dropped their last two games, making ASU’s victory over the Irish just another somewhat meaningless win.
ASU can still fight for a berth in a top bowl game by beating the rival Wildcats. There was a three game stretch where ASU’s defense looked like one of the best in the nation. The Sun Devils trounced Stanford 26 to 10, it beat up on Washington 24 to 10 and it easily handled Utah in a 19 to 16 victory. But since the Notre Dame win, ASU’s defense really hasn’t looked all that great. First, Oregon State roughed up the Sun Devils’ D by dropping 35 points and racking up 498 yards. Then, Washington State poured in 31 points and racked up 622 total yards.
The Sun Devils now face an offense that is averaging 452.5 yards and 37 points per game. Arizona beat Utah 42 to 10 in its last game. If the Wildcats keep that momentum, they could blow ASU out of the Tucson desert and back up I-10 to Phoenix.

When it comes to the betting trends, ASU appears to have the edge. The Sun Devils are 4 and 1 ATS versus a team with a winning record and they’re 4 and 1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. ASU is also 7 and 2 against the spread in the last 9 meetings in Tucson.
Arizona looks to have the upper hand based on stats and recent play, but Arizona State is the pick. The trends go their way and they could get back one of the more talented wide receivers in the nation, Jaelen Strong, just in time to take on their desert rival.
ASU is the team to back in the sports book.
