Why Bet the Stanford Cardinals Line at -9.5
The 19th ranked Stanford Cardinal were on the wrong end of a humbling 42-24 loss against fourth-ranked USC in Week 2 that dropped them to 1-1 on the season. Quarterback Keller Chryst completed 15 of 28 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Bryce Love had a 75-yard TD run while finishing with 160 yards on 17 carries. Unfortunately, the Cardinal allowed USC quarterback Sam Darnold to throw four touchdown passes while giving up 309 rushing yards in the loss.
"Their offensive line played extremely well," Shaw said. "I thought we ran it pretty well. They ran it better than we did. Not used to saying things like that, so all the credit goes to them."
"Honestly, though, this could be the best thing that happens to our team," Stanford safety Justin Reid said. "We’re going to let this feeling sit in our mouth for the rest of the season, because we don’t ever want to go through this again."
For the season, Love is averaging 170.0 rushing yards per game while Chryst has completed a modest 55.8% of his passes with four TD passes and no interceptions.
Why Bet the San Diego State Aztecs Line at +9.5
The San Diego State Aztecs improved to 2-0 by taking out the Arizona State Sun Devils, 30-20 in Week 2 as running back Rashaad Penny rushed 18 times for 216 yards and one touchdown while adding four catches for 38 yards and another score.
"UC Davis is a good team, I never look past anyone, but I felt like the Arizona State game probably could have been the game where a lot of people take notice," said Penny who finished with 353 all-purpose yards and added a 99-yard kickoff return for a score as well.
"You’re just seeing what we knew all along, that he’s one of the best running backs in the country," San Diego State coach Rocky Long said.
Quarterback Christian Chapman completed 9 of 18 passes for 73 yards and once score in the win. For the season, San Diego State is averaging 34.0 points per game while Chapman has completed 64.1% of his passes with three touchdowns and one interception.
Standford Vs San Diego State Expert Analysis and Pick
While Stanford got man-handled in their loss to USC last weekend, I really like the Cardinal to rebound in a big way to beat San Diego State, although I’m going to encourage you to back the Aztecs to cover the spread in a matchup that looks like it will be closer to a 4-7 point finish than a double-digit loss it would take for the Cardinal to cover the spread.
Stanford has gone11-2 ATS in their last 13 games following a straight up loss and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 road games, but the Aztecs are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up win and 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games following an ATS win. This contest could be the best matchup of elite running backs this season.
Pick: San Diego State +9.5
