Why Bet the TCU Horned Frogs Line at +12
The TCU Horned Frogs rolled all over SMU in their 56-36 Week 3 win despite failing to cover the spread as 22-point home favorites. Quarterback Kenny Hill completed 24 of 30 passes for 365 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions and running back Darius Anderson rushed 14 times for 89 yards and two scores. TCU pounded Jacksonville State 63-0 in its opener and got past Arkansas 28-7 in Week 2. Now they’re facing a monster offense when they take on Mason Rudolph and an Oklahoma State offense that ranks third nationally in total offense and fourth in scoring at 54.0 points per game.
"They’ve been at a high level," said TCU coach Gary Patterson. "For me, it’s how do I stop it and how do I slow it down? But (Rudolph’s) doing a great job and that’s what you get with a senior quarterback."
Why Bet the Oklahoma State Cowboys Line at -12
The Oklahoma State Cowboys throttled Pittsburgh in their 59-21 Week 3 win just as I predicted to cover the spread as a 10.5-point road favorite. Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 23 of 32 passes for 497 yards with five touchdowns and one interception while running back Justice Hill added 91 rushing yards and two scores in the win.
The Cowboys have outscored their three opponents this season 162-52 and Rudolph has yet to play in a fourth quarter while ranking fourth nationally in passing yards per game (387.3) and second in touchdown passes (11).
"I think it’s the best group we will have played up to this point," said Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy. "And they’re always going to challenge you. TCU is going to hold its defensive call until the last second and they’re going to run with you. They recruit well. Their guys can tackle and move well, so it’ll be a challenge for all of us. It’ll be a good game."
Expert Analysis and Prediction
For me, Oklahoma State is the pick to win and cover the college football betting line, mostly because I have no faith in erratic TCU quarterback Kenny Hill after he flamed out at Texas A&M and tossed a Big-12 high 13 interceptions against just 17 TD passes a year ago.
Mason Rudolph is clearly the real deal and will almost assuredly be the best player on the field in this Big 12 battle while leading the Cowboys to the solid home win.
TCU is just 2-7 ATS in their last 9 conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while Oklahoma State has gone 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in the month of September, a near-perfect 5-1 ATS in their L/6 games against a team with a winning record and an unblemished 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. Simply put, go with the 69 percent of public bettors that like the Cowboys to get it done at home!
Pick: Oklahoma State -12
