Analyzing The Texas Vs Arkansas Texas Bowl Spread & Prediction

Arkansas will win the Advocare 100 Texas Bowl if

They rattle Tyrone Swoopes and play solid defense!

If the Arkansas Razorbacks want to win the 2014 Texas Bowl, then they simply need to rattle Longhorn’s athletically-gifted, but inexperienced, quarterback Tyrone Swoopes.

Texas’ sophomore signal-caller completed just 58.8 percent of his passes while throwing just 13 TD passes and 10 interceptions. In the Longhorns’ season-ending loss to TCU, Swoopes threw one touchdown pass and four interceptions and Texas never had a chance in the 48-10 spanking.

The good news for the Razorbacks is that they ranked 24th in the nation in total defense, including a stellar 16th in points allowed (20.2 ppg) while holding each of their last five opponents to 21 points or less and four of them to 17 points or less. Linebacker Martrell Spaight led the conference in total tackles (123) to earn a first team All-SEC selection.

Texas will win the Advocare 100 Texas Bowl if

The Longhorns can stop the Razorbacks’ monstrous two-headed rushing attack!

If the Texas Longhorns want to win the 2014 Texas Bowl, then they need to stop Arkansas’ overwhelming two-headed rushing attack featuring running backs Alex Collins (1,024 yards) and Jonathan Williams (1,004 yards). Both backs averaged at least 5.5 yards per carry with Collins recording a dozen touchdown and Williams 11.

The good news for the Longhorns is that they too, had a fine defensive unit that ranked 28th in the nation, including a stellar 12th against the pass while limiting their opponents to just 23.2 points per contest (33rd). Stopping the Razorbacks’ prolific runners could be troublesome as the ‘Horns ranked just 67th against the run.

Who will win the Advocare 100 Texas Bowl?

These teams are meeting for the first time since 2008 and Texas leads the all-time series 56-21. No matter, I like Arkansas to win this matchup and cover the bowl game betting line by rattling Tyrone Swoopes and the Longhorns’ modest rushing attack.

I also believe Arkansas quarterback Brandon Allen (18 TD’s 5 INT’s) is going to outplay Tyrone Swoopes in this matchup mostly by taking better care of the ball.

I was extremely impressed with the Razorbacks’ wins over LSU and Ole Miss and I believe the program is headed in the right direction very quickly under Bret Bielema!
