Why Bet On No. 6 Clemson (-6) to Beat Louisville

Clemson’s offense should exploit a young Louisville defense.

Louisville’s defense in 2014 was one of the better units in college football. The only way to beat Louisville’s D was to wear it out so that by the fourth quarter, its defensive line was gassed. That’s not true this season and the college football week 3 odds back that up.

Louisville has been one of the most disappointing teams in all of college football so far in 2015. The Cardinals looked great in a 24 to 31 loss to Auburn in Week 1. It turns out that Auburn just isn’t a very good football team. The Tigers needed over time in order to beat Jacksonville State 27 to 20 as a -44 point chalk.

In Week 2, Louisville lost to Houston straight up 31 to 34 as a -13.5 point home favorite. Giving up 31 points to Houston is a sign that the Cardinals might give up over 50 to Clemson. The Tigers’ offense with DeShaun Watson at QB is averaging 462.5 yards and 45 points per game. Watson can throw or run the football. He’s been throwing it so far, completing 77% of his passes and throwing 6 touchdowns to 1 interception in only 2 games. Clemson averages 181 yards per game on the ground. If Clemson has its way with the young Louisville defense, they should easily surpass their 45 point average.

Why Bet On Louisville to Beat No. 6 Clemson (-6)

Louisville’s QB shuffle is the burning question for head coach Bobby Petrino

Louisville has had nothing but bad luck so far this season. The Cardinals were sitting on a win against Auburn in Week 1 before failing to close the deal and losing 31 to 24. They looked like winners versus Houston. But, the Cougars outscored the Cardinals 24 to 17 in the second half to beat Louisville 34 to 31.

The Cardinals have a very good coach in Bobby Petrino. Petrino will need to find a way to get his team over the hump against an extremely good, Top 10 team in Clemson. How Petrino does it is anybody’s guess. One thing that Petrino could do to motivate his squad is to make Kyle Bolin the starter at quarterback.

Lamar Jackson has started the last 2 games. He’s been inconsistent and he’s made some big mistakes. Versus Houston, Jackson completed 17 of 27 for 168 yards. He threw a single TD and 2 interceptions. Against Auburn, Jackson went 9 out of 20 for 100 yards and a pick. He did rush for 106 yards and a TD versus Auburn, but everybody will do that against the Tigers this season.

It’s time for Petrino to make a QB change. That’s Louisville’s only shot. It’s not much of one.

With Clemson favored by 6 in the college football betting odds, I am picking the Tigers and the over in this college football week 3 tilt. My final score prediction is Clemson 49, Louisville 24
