Can Troy Trojans Pull Off Upset Over No. 25 LSU Tigers in Week 5 Matchup
The Troy Trojans will look to complete a mission that two other teams in school history couldn’t when they visit No. 25 LSU for their Week 5 non-conference matchup of identical 3-1 teams. Troy nearly pulled off a pair of upsets against the Tigers the only two times they’ve played LSU in 2004 and 2008. Now, let’s find out if they can get the outright win or ATS cover this time around.

Where: Tiger Stadium-LSU
Stream: Watch ESPN
Spread: LSU Tigers -20.5
Why Bet the Troy Trojans Spread at +20.5
The Trojans look like a good bet because they have some talent and a solid defense and are getting nearly three touchdowns as road dogs. Troy won their third straight games losing their opener by beating the Akron Zips 22-17 this past weekend as quarterback Brandon Silvers completed 28 of 41 passes for 314 yards and one touchdown while running back Jordan Chunn rushed for a team-high 106 yards and one score on 16 carries. Fellow running back Kaleb Barker added 57 yards and another touchdown on two carries while wide receiver Deondre Douglas caught seven passes for 92 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Zo Bridges recorded two sacks and Kris Weatherspoon added two interceptions in the win.
Why Bet the LSU Tigers Spread at -20.5
The Tigers look like a good bet in this contest because they have more talent and are playing at home in this week 5 matchup.
LSU got past Syracuse 35-26 on Saturday as quarterback Danny Etling completed 10 of 17 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and running back Darrel Williams rushed 16 times for a team-high 92 yards and one touchdown, fellow backs DJ Chark and Derrius Guice each added a rushing score in the closer-than-expected win.
“I thought we did some good things. And obviously, we have some things we need to clean up,” Tigers head coach Ed Oregon said afterward. “I thought we took a step forward on special teams. Kicking and kick coverage was outstanding.”
Troy Vs LSU Week 5 Betting Advice
Troy has gone 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while LSU has gone 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games, but an uninspiring 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 home games and dismal 1-7 ATS in their last nine games in the month of September.
LSU may be playing at home and they certainly have more talent on their roster than Troy, but I don’t like mediocre quarterback Danny Etling one iota and I believe Troy will cover the spread by keeping the final score well inside three touchdowns. While only 36 percent of public bettors are backing the Trojans to cover the college football betting line, I’m among them!
Pick: Troy +20.5
