Two mid-range teams looking for a big game on Friday nightTheDuck
This will be the quintessential run offense of the Navy Midshipmen against the pure passing attack of the San Jose State Spartans. Neither teams has a defense worth mentioning as Navy comes in ranked 50 th and the Spartans are 90 th overall, San Jose State has now lost back to back games and know that with their .500 record, one more loss will keep them out of a bowl appearance.
Navy is pushing the envelope with their running game, their starting back has carried the ball 214 times for 884 yards and 19 total trips to the end zone, it seems that whoever they face their ground and pound shins. The problem comes on third and long situations when they have to throw the ball, their QB has issues seeing down field and needs better patience in the pocket.
San Jose State has really shined this season with their passing game, young freshman QB Davis Fales has completed 233 of his 386 passes for 3200+ yards and 22 touchdown passes, but they rarely run the ball placing a lot of pressure on the QB when he has to drop back 75% of the time to throw but I don’t see anything different in this game.
What to Expect:
I see Navy running all over the Spartans while San Jose State dominates the Midshipmen´s back field. This will be a high scoring game and the team to get the ball last and march up the field will take it in dramatic form. I think that a game like this really shows off the younger guys as top receivers and running backs for the upcoming draft. Navy will be the favorite but this is a very hard game to handicap, I feel comfortable saying that Navy takes it because although their passing game is not very good, they still have one to lean back on if they need to.
