Rosen and Bruins Look to Nail Down Win as Road favorites Against Memphis in Week 3 Pairing

Josh Rosen and the unbeaten UCLA Bruins will look to nail down the win as road favorite while remaining unbeaten to keep their four-team College Football Playoff hopes alive when they visit the Memphis Tigers in a Week 3 matchup that has a distinctive look and feel for me.

Now, let’s find out why I believe the ATS outcome of this contest is a lock for one team in particular.

Why Bet the UCLA Bruins Line at -3

The UCLA Bruins (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS) beat the hell out of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in their 56-23 Week 2 win as quarterback Josh Rosen continued his bid for the Heisman by completing a scorching 22 of 25 passes for 329 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Wide receiver Darren Andrews caught four passes for 92 yards and three touchdowns in the win while linebacker Adarius Pickett recorded a whopping 15 tackles in the win. Through two games this season, Rosen is completing an incendiary 67.9 percent of his passes for 820 yards with nine TD passes and no interceptions. The Bruins will look to snap a four-game road losing streak against Memphis.

Rosen has shot up the board as a Heisman pick, going from a lower longshot pick to being tied for the fourth best odds with Penn State running back Saquon Barkley and Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph. Rosen has the second-best odds of any Pac-12 player, behind USC quarterback Sam Darnold, who is 6-to-1 to win this year’s Heisman.

Why Bet the Memphis Tigers Odds at +3

Memphis had the week off with their game against the Central Florida Knights getting canceled because of Hurricane Irma. The Tigers beat the UL-Monroe Warhawks 37-29 in their regular season opener although quarterback Riley Ferguson was very inefficient in completing just 10 of 25 passes for 87 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Running back Darrell Henderson carried the Tigers to victory by rushing for 169 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries while fellow running back Patrick Taylor Jr. added 131 rushing yards and one score on 15 carries.

Head coach Mike Norvell knows his team will have its hands full in trying to stop the red-hot Rosen.

"I know that they don’t have that person that somebody’s always pointing to at (receiver), but their receiving corps is pretty dang impressive," Norvell said at his weekly media luncheon Monday. "Josh does a great job getting the ball out and distributing it, but you’ve got to have guys that can go get it."

Expert Analysis and Pick

I have no idea why the UCLA Bruins are ‘just’ 3-point road favorites to beat Memphis when it’s pretty evident that they are much better than the Tigers this season and have a ton of motivation to snap their road losing streak, not to mention the fact that Josh Rosen is playing some insane football right now and the Bruins have some high hopes for a Pac-12 title at the very least.

While I’m always cautious when it comes to the Bruins, I’m thinking something is different about UCLA this season – or should I sat – at least until I see otherwise. Forget the fact that UCLA is just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. Memphis is just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall. UCLA looks like an absolute lock and one of the best bets on the entire Week 3 docket from where I’m sitting.

Pick: UCLA -3
