UCLA snapped its two-game losing streak by getting past Arizona State 44-37 in a high-scoring affair this past Saturday. The Bruins entered the fourth quarter tied at 34 before putting 10 unanswered points on the board and limiting the Sun Devils to a field goal with just over a minute remaining to get the win. Quarterback Josh Rosen passed for 381 yards with one TD and one pick in the win but the Bruins did give up 294 rushing yards to Arizona State before holding on in the final frame. Unfortunately, UCLA is actually allowing more points per game this season (38.6 ppg) than they are averaging offensively (35.2 ppg).
The Trojans have gotten hot at just the right time and although it’s not going to help their College Football Playoff chances, USC has won three straight since getting blown out by Notre Dame while winning five of their last six games overall. The Trojans overwhelmed Colorado in its 38-24 Week 11 win as a 14-point road favorite as preseason Heisman favorite Sam Darnold passed for 329 yards and two scores while running back Ronald Jones II rushed for 142 yards and another score. USC picked off Colorado signal-caller Steven Montez twice in the win but has committed 22 turnovers on the season and has an overall turnover margin of a modest +1.
While I’d like to see the UCLA Bruins turn this into a contest, they’ve been absolutely brutal on the road this season and are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games. While USC has fallen way short of its playoff hopes and national championship dreams and will likely see Sam Darnold bolt for the NFL draft after the season, the Trojans are a near-perfect 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7 games in November however while the favorite in this long rivalry is 6-2 ATS in the last eight games and the home team is 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings. USC wins and covers, against a UCLA team that has given up at least 44 points in each of its last three losses.
Pick: USC -15
