Upset Picks College Football Week 5

My upset picks for college football Week 5 start on Friday, Sept. 29. Will #5 USC prove it deserves its ranking by beating #16 Washington State against the spread?

What’s going to happen when #7 Georgia heads to Knoxville to battle rival Tennessee?

Can #13 Auburn add a loss against the spread at home versus #24 Mississippi State?

#5 USC at #16 Washington State
When:  Friday, Sep. 29 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: Martin Stadium, Pullman, WA
TV: ESPN
Odds: Washington State +4.5

Analysis: I’m still not sure what to make of the USC Trojans. The Trojans entered their Week 4 game versus California as a -16.5-road favorite. USC pulled away in the 4th quarter for a 30 to 20 win.

I believe USC has a great chance of beating Washington State on Friday. I’m just not sure if the Trojans can beat Washington State by more than a field goal. Washington State has a quarterback equal to, or better, then USC’s Sam Darnold.

Cougars’ QB Luke Falk has thrown 14 TD passes to 1 interceptions this season. He’s completing close to 77% of his passes.

Falk’s going to keep this close. I’m taking the points.

Upset Pick Week 5: Washington State +4.5

#7 Georgia at Tennessee
When:  Saturday, Sep. 30 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, TN
TV: CBS
Odds: Tennessee +7

Analysis: Georgia looked great in Week 4. The Bulldogs trounced Mississippi State 31 to 3 as a -2.5-home favorite. Georgia could suffer the dreaded bounce in College Football Week 5, though.

Tennessee isn’t a terrible team. The Vols were a Hail Mary pass away from going into overtime versus Florida in The Swamp. Tennessee’s 20 to 26 loss to Florida tells me that Tennessee can hang with Georgia on Saturday.

The Volunteers have a shot to win this game straight up. I don’t see any reason not to the take the points. 7 is a lot to give to an SEC rival.

Upset Pick Week 5: Tennessee +7

#24 Mississippi State at #13 Auburn
When:  Saturday, Sept. 30 at 6:00 pm ET
Where: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL
TV: ESPN
Odds: Mississippi State +10

Analysis: Mississippi State is much better than their blowout loss to Georgia in Week 4. The Bulldogs had a letdown game after dominating LSU at home 37 to 7 in College Football Week 3.

I believe Mississippi State comes roaring back against Auburn in Week 5. Now that the Bulldogs have their first loss out of the way, they can get back to relaxing and playing like a real underdog.

Mississippi State is 4 and 1 against the spread in the last 5 meetings between these two. Auburn is 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games in September. I’m taking the 10 points.

Upset Pick Week 5: Mississippi State +10
