Why Bet On UTEP To Beat Texas Tech (-21)
Although Texas Tech is expected to blow out the UTEP Miners in Week 2, UTEP might be able to stick with Texas Tech’s spread offense. The Miners showed flashes of having a very good offense in their 13 to 48 Week 1 loss to Arkansas.
Arkansas is one of the top teams in college football this season. The Miners scored 13 points and garnered over 200 yards. Considering that Arkansas’ defense is supposed to be a lock down unit, UTEP could take something out of that game. UTEP QB Mack Leftwich completed over 64% of his passes versus Arkansas. He should easily be able to raise that percentage close to 70% versus Texas Tech.
What’s more important for the Miners is how they played against the Red Raiders last season. As a -21 point favorite, Texas Tech could only beat UTEP 30 to 26. Texas Tech is going to have to play defense in this game. If they don’t, the underrated Miners’ offense could make it close again, maybe even upset the Red Raiders.

Why Bet On Texas Tech (-20.5) To Beat UTEP
The Texas Tech offense was absolutely brilliant in the Red Raiders Week 1 victory over Sam Houston State. Texas Tech scored 59 points in the game. QB Patrick Mahomes II threw for 425 yards. He passed for 4 touchdowns and only a single pick. Mahomes completed over 62% of his passes.
All in all the Red Raiders gained 611 yards. Texas Tech rushed for 173 yards on the ground. It’s hard to imagine UTEP having much shot of keeping up with such a prolific offense. Texas Tech is, without a doubt, one of the better spread formation teams in college football. The Red Raiders scored at will against some of the best teams in the Big 12 last season. They’re going to put some points on the board versus UTEP.
But as good as Texas Tech’s offense is, the defense might be just as bad. Even though Texas Tech scored 59 points against Sam Houston State, the Red Raiders also let Sam Houston State score 45 points. Tech actually pushed in their Week 1 game versus Sam Houston State.
When it comes to their Week 2 game against UTEP, things could get tough for Texas Tech. The Red Raiders should win because they take on the Miners at home, but it won’t be as easy as the betting line suggests. Bet on UTEP plus the points. That goes against the betting public, 65.5% of whom are backing Texas Tech minus the points. My final score prediction is Texas Tech 49, UTEP 42
