With that said and this Thursday night thriller quickly approaching, let’s get started.
No. 11 UCLA at No. 15 Arizona State
When: 10:00 PM ET, Thursday, September 25, 2014
Where: Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe, Arizona
Spread: UCLA -4
UCLA may be undefeated, but they haven’t looked overpowering by any standards. The Bruins have won all three of their 2014 contests by eight points or less, including their narrow 20-17 Week 3 win over Texas, though they did fail to cover the spread as an 8.5-point road favorite to fall to 0-3 ATS on the season.
UCLA got a fine performance from backup quarterback Jerry Neuheisel after he entered the game for injured starting quarterback Brett Hundley. The sophomore signal-caller completed 23 of 30 passes for 178 yards with to touchdowns and no interceptions while leading the Bruins on a game-winning touchdown drive that put the Bruins up by three with just 3:00 minutes remaining.

Defensively, UCLA limited Texas to just 322 total yards, including 120 rushing yards. The Bruins have some good news heading into this Pac-12 showdown in that they’ll likely have Hundley back on the field after he injured his elbow two weeks ago.
Head coach Jim Mora told reporters a week ago that he would not to provide any injury updates on Hundley until the Bruins’ kickoff.
“All of our players that are out, what we try to do is try to make the best decision for them based on the knowledge that we have,” Mora said. “We depend on our doctors to give us good information. We’ve got the best doctors in America, in my opinion. If they clear him and they say that he can play, just like everybody else, we’ll play him.”
The Bruins average a solid 30.0 points per game (77th), including 288.0 passing yards per game (33rd). Defensively, UCLA is limiting their opponents to just 24.0 points per contest (61st) while ranking in the top 100 in every other meaningful defensive category.
Arizona State is coming off an impressive 38-24 rout over Colorado in Week 3 in which they covered the spread as a 15.5-point road favorite to snap their modest 0-2 ATS skid.
The bad news for the Sun Devils is that they won’t have starting quarterback Taylor Kelly under center in this contest after the senior injured his foot in the team’s Week 3 win.
The importance of this matchup however, isn’t lost on junior backup quarterback Mike Bercovici.
"As long as I’ve been in this conference, the winner of this game goes to the conference title (game)," said Bercovici, who will make his first career start in this contest after going 2-for-4 for eight yards against Colorado.
Vegas Football Betting Odds Analysis
I really like Arizona State this season and believe that UCLA is a bit overrated, but the Sun Devils won’t have their starting quarterback available for this prime time battle which is why I’m going to urge you to back the UCLA Bruins in this contest.
While Arizona State beat UCLA 38-33 to cash in as a 3-point road favorite in last season’s meeting, these two teams have split the last 10 meetings evenly with each team recording its last victory on the road.
The home team in this Pac-12 rivalry is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings, but UCLA has gone 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall and a consistent 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a winning home record.
With the Arizona State Sun Devils going 1-4 ATS in their last five games and playing this game without their starting quarterback, I like the UCLA Bruins to get the job done!
