Why Bet on Virginia at +24.5
Virginia had to have overlooked the Richmond Spiders in their first game of the season. It would have been hard for any team to overlook Division II Richmond when you have to travel to Oregon to play the Ducks seven days later. That probably explains how Virginia’s defense, which was terrific in spots last season, gave up 37 points to the Spiders. Virginia’s offense amassed only 302 total yards. That wasn’t inspiring, either.
Why Bet on Oregon at -24.5
The Ducks offense, once again, cannot be stopped. Oregon amassed a total of 522 yards in their win over UC-Davis. The Ducks were awesome in the rushing game. They rushed for 251 yards from 37 carries. They averaged 6.8 yards per carry via the rush. Oregon QB Dakota Prukop averaged 9 yards per pass play when throwing for 271 yards.
Now let’s get a closer look at my college football week 2 free pick.
Free Pick & Final Score Prediction
The Ducks’ defense continues to play its odd bend but don’t break style. What Oregon does is stop the rush. It dares teams to beat it via the pass. Some teams, like Ohio State in the 2014 College Football National Championship, are perfectly capable of shredding Oregon’s defense via the rush and the pass.
Virginia isn’t one of those teams. The Ducks will score. That’s a given. The key is whether or not Virginia is capable of keeping up. I’m not sure that the Cavaliers, who only managed 38 rushing yards versus Richmond, is capable of doing much damage to the Oregon defense.
The Ducks are my college football week 2 free pick in this tilt. Oregon’s offense should have its way with Virginia from the outset. Oregon will cover the betting odds spread while also coming close to going over the total all by themselves.
