Why Bet the Purdue Boilermakers Odds at +16.5
The Boilermakers beat Minnesota 31-17 last weekend as quarterback Elijah Sindelar came off the bench to rally the Boilermakers to victory. The backup signal-caller completed 19 of 26 passes for a career-high 248 yards with one touchdown and no picks.
Starting quarterback David Blough Blough struggled by completing six of 10 passes for one touchdown, but two costly interceptions. Brohm said he expects both quarterbacks to see action against the Badgers this week. This season, Blough is completing 68.9 percent of his passes for 688 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. Sindelar is completing a modest 55.5 percent of his passes for 614 yards with six TD passes and two interceptions. Purdue averages a respectable 29.6 points per game (70th) while allowing 20.8 points per contest (36th).
Why Bet the Wisconsin Badgers Odds at -16.5
The Badgers overwhelmed Nebraska 38-17 in Week 6 win to cover the college football betting line as a 12.5-point road favorite. Quarterback Alex Hornibrook completed 9 of 17 passes for 113 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the win.
Freshman running back Jonathan Taylor posted his second 200-yard rushing game of the season by going for 248 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. This season, Hornibrook is completing 64.5 percent of his passes for 1,011 yards with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Wisconsin averages an impressive 40.2 points per game to rank 17th in scoring.
Wisconsin is once again one of the best defensive teams in the nation under head coach Paul Chryst. The Badgers limit the opposition to 14.2 points per game to rank ninth in points allowed. Wisconsin held Nebraska to just 68 total yards in the second half of their Week 6 road win.
"They are relentless on defense," Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm said. "Their guys go so hard and they finish and they tackle and they hit and they wear people down.
Expert Analysis and Prediction
While I’m a huge believer in Wisconsin and think they can challenge for both, the Big Ten title and a berth in the four-team College Football Playoff, I also think the 16.5-point spread is a tad too high for the Badgers to cover in this contest.
Purdue is undoubtedly an improved team in Jeff Brohm’s first season and has gone 12-3-2 ATS in their last 17 road games and a near-perfect 5-1 ATS in their last six games. Despite their unblemished record, the Badgers are just 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 home games. Purdue has come through for me several times this season and I like them to do so once again in this Week 7 Big Ten battle. Back the Boilermakers to cover the chalk everyone!
Pick: Purdue +16.5
