College Football Week 2 Upset Picks

Arizona at Houston
When: Saturday, Sep 8 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: TDECU Stadium, Houston, TX
Odds: Arizona +170

Analysis: BYU upset Arizona 28-23 in Week 1. At halftime, Arizona had built a 10-7 lead. The Wildcats also outscored the Cougars 13-0 in the fourth quarter, but BYU outscored Arizona 21-0 in the third quarter.

In Week 1, Houston easily handled Rice 45-27. Rice isn’t as good of a team as either the BYU Cougars or the Arizona Wildcats. New Arizona coach Kevin Sumlin should make the adjustments that provide U of A their first win of the season.

Pick: Arizona

Duke at Northwestern
When: Saturday, Sep. 8 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Ryan Field, Evanston, IL
Odds: Duke +130

Analysis: In Week 1, Northwestern beat Purdue 31-27. Northwestern fought hard to beat their Big Ten rival. They could bounce in Week 2 against a decent Duke Blue Devils squad.

Duke covered as a -14 home favorite over Army when they beat the Knights 34 to 14. Duke’s defense played well while the offense had a good mix of rushing and passing plays.

Duke dominated Northwestern 41-17 last season. Blue Devils’ quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 305 yards and 2 TDs. He also rushed for 108 yards and 2 TDs. Jones completed over 76% of his passes against Army in Week 1.

One could make the case that college football oddsmakers should have favored Duke against the spread on Sep. 8

Pick: Duke

Georgia Tech at South Florida
When: Saturday, Sep. 8 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL
Odds: South Florida +135

Analysis: Georgia Tech looked great beating Alcorn State 41-0 in Week 1. But, the Yellow Jackets continue to thrive off a strong rushing attack. They must pass the ball on Saturday to beat underdog South Florida.

South Florida’s defense held their Week 1 opponent, Elon, to less than 4 yards per carry and a total of 42 passing yards. The Bulls’ defense should have success keeping Georgia Tech’s rushing in check.

South Florida looks like a great play on the moneyline.

Pick: South Florida
