College Football Week 3 Expert Picks

Let’s not waste any time. Are there any smart betting picks for week 3 of college football?

Can Alabama beat Ole Miss? Will Notre Dame continue to bounce back from its Week 1 loss to Texas versus higher ranked Michigan State?  What will be the outcome when Ohio State travels to Norman, Oklahoma to battle the Sooners?

College Football Week 3 Expert Picks

#1 Alabama (-9.5) at #19 Ole Miss
When:  Saturday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford, MS
TV: CBS

Analysis: Ole Miss beat Alabama 43 to 37 last season. The Ole Miss offense looked great in the first half against Florida State in the Rebels’ first game of the season. It looked exceptional in the 38 to 13 win over Wofford in the Rebels’ second game of the season.

None of that will help Ole Miss against Alabama. The defending champs might be better this season than they were last season. The secondary has gelled as evidenced by the whipping it put on both the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a 38 to10 win and the USC Trojans in a 52 to 6 win.

Alabama’s offense took the day off versus Western Kentucky. If they hadn’t, they would have scored close to 50 points again. That’s okay. When your defense allows 8 total points and 43 rushing yards per game on average, your offense can take a day off.
Roll Tide.

Pick: Alabama -9.5

#12 Michigan State at #18 Notre Dame (-7.5)
When: Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame, Indiana
TV: NBC

Analysis: Michigan State beat Furman 28 to 13 as a -37.5-point underdog in their first game of the season. The Spartans had Week 2 off. That’s a good thing, right?  Since they didn’t come close to covering against Furman on Sept. 2?

Notre Dame bounced back from a tough loss to Texas in Week 1 to record a 39 to 10 win over Nevada in Week 2. The Fighting Irish should have no trouble putting a beat down on an overrated Michigan State defense in Week 3. The Spartans held Furman to 13 points.

It’s doubtful that they hold Notre Dame to less than 30. The Irish average 444 yards and 43 points per game. Notre Dame’s defense looked markedly better against Nevada than it did versus Texas. Since MSU has a ball-control offense, this game could get ugly early.

Pick: Notre Dame -7.5

#3 Ohio State (-2.5) at #14 Oklahoma
When:  Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK
TV: FOX

Analysis: Oklahoma beat ULM 59 to 17. It was a nice win but the Sooners failed to cover the 46-point spread that they were favored by. Oklahoma is now 0-2 ATS and 1-1 SU to start the season. Houston dominated Oklahoma’s defense when racking up 410 total yards and scoring 33 points. Oklahoma faces one of the legitimate College Football Playoff Teams in NCAA in Week 3.

Ohio State beat Bowling Green 77 to 10 before dominating Tulsa 48 to 3. Sure, Oklahoma is supposed to be tougher than any of those teams. I don’t buy it. From my perspective, Oklahoma is going to have a heck of a time stopping Heisman Trophy candidate QB J.T. Barrett. Barrett has thrown 6 touchdown passes. He’s rushed for 3 TDs. The Buckeyes average 62 points per game. Ohio State’s offense should be too much for Oklahoma to handle.

Pick: Ohio State -2.5
