Week 6 College Football 5 ? Lock Picks

College Football Week 6 could prove to be a redemption week for more than one team. Will it be Texas or Oklahoma who makes amends for shoddy beginnings to the season in the annual Red River Rivalry? Can Notre Dame continue to win with its new defensive coordinator? How will Penn State handle Maryland’s high-scoring offense?  Keep reading for my College Football Week 6 Lock Picks!

Notre Dame at North Carolina State
When:  Saturday, Oct. 8 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Carter-Findley Stadium, Raleigh, NC
TV: ABC
Odds: Notre Dame -1.5

Analysis: Notre Dame’s defense finally came up big in Week 5. Well, sort of. The Irish did give up 33 points to Syracuse. Luckily for Notre Dame, they scored 50 points on offense. QB DeShone Kizer played the entire game. He threw for 471 yards and 3 touchdowns.

It should be impossible for North Carolina State to stop Notre Dame’s offense. The Wolfpack defense has played well this season, but NC State has taken on a bunch of cupcakes in the first month. They’ve beaten William and Mary, Old Dominion and Wake Forest.

They lost to East Carolina. Notre Dame should crush North Carolina State on Saturday.

Pick: Notre Dame -1.5

Texas at #20 Oklahoma
When:  Saturday, Oct. 8 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Cotton Bowl, Dallas, TX
TV: FS1
Odds: Oklahoma -8

Analysis: After their Week 1 win over Notre Dame, everybody was high on Charlie Strong and Texas. The Longhorns climbed all the way to number 11 after beating Notre Dame. A 41 to 7 destruction of UTEP had some calling the Longhorns a title contender.

Then, reality set in. First, came the 43 to 50 loss to Cal in Berkley as a -7.5 road favorite. Then, after a bye week, the Longhorns lost to Oklahoma State 31 to 49. Now, nobody expects Texas to win more than 3 or 4 more games this season much less win the Big 12 Conference.

Oklahoma had a rough start to the season. That’s what happens when you play two of the best teams in the country, Houston and Ohio State, in 2 out of your first 4 games. Oklahoma beat TCU on the road in Week 5 as a -3.5 road favorite.

The Sooners should pick it up from here. I expect them to rock Texas all day long.

Pick: Oklahoma -8>

Maryland at Penn State
When:  Saturday, Oct. 8 at 4:00pm ET
Where: Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA
TV: BTN
Odds: Pick

Analysis: Maryland is undefeated at 4-0 while Penn State goes into this game with a 3-2 straight up record. The Terrapins beat up Howard, Florida International and the University of Central Florida before showing up Purdue 50 to 7.

If it hadn’t been for the Purdue game, most handicappers, including me, would probably dump on Penn State in this. The fact that the line has moved from Penn State -3 to a pick game means that everyone is on Maryland. I see why. The Terrapins can play defense while Penn State has proven that it can’t.

I think Maryland rolls in Beaver Stadium on Oct. 8.

Pick: Maryland
