Texas at Kansas State
When: Saturday, Oct. 22 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, KS
TV: ESPN 2
Analysis: The total opened at 58.5. It has since gone to 56.5. Texas has an okay defense. So does Kansas State. The Longhorns beat Kansas State 23 to 9 in last year’s battle between these 2.
Although Texas allows an average of 444.3 yards and 34 points per game, Kansas State is likely to use their rushing attack to slow this game down. The Wildcats only average 342.7 total yards per game. Defensively, the Wildcats only allow 21 point per game.
K-State can’t get into a shootout with Texas. If they do, the Wildcats won’t have any shot of winning this game straight up. I like under the total.
Over/Under Pick:U 56.5
#19 Utah at UCLA
When: Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
Analysis: Utah and UCLA face what looks to me like a seriously high total. Both of these teams have really good defenses. The Bruins allow 23 points per game. The Bruins only allow 344.4 yards per game. Utah’s defense allows 18.3 points and 341.6 total yards.
UCLA’s offense can be great at times. But Utah’s defense should do enough to keep the Bruins below their usual 26 points per game in this. I also don’t think that Utah wants to get into a shootout with UCLA.
The Bruins’ defense has had some spectacular moments like holding the high-scoring Arizona Wildcats to only 24 points and keeping BYU to only 14 points. Even holding Washington State to 27 points is great.
I see this going under 46.
Over/Under Pick: U 46
#16 Oklahoma at Texas Tech
When: Saturday, Oct. 22 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock, TX
Analysis: Wow, 84 is a lot of points, right? Maybe it isn’t in a game between Oklahoma and Texas Tech. First, Texas Tech doesn’t play defense. The Red Raiders allow 40.2 points and close to 480 yards per game. Oklahoma’s defense allows 412.8 yards and 33 points per game.
I don’t think that either one of these teams is going to let up for all 4 quarters on Saturday. Oklahoma should score close to 50 points, if not more, in this. Texas Tech should eclipse 40 points in this game.
I think the Sooners and Red Raiders get close to 100 in this battle.
