2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Betting Picks

Welcome back football. How I hath missed thee cannot be put into words. The 2015 NFL HOF game kicks off this Sunday, August 9th at 8:00 PM ET and it couldn’t of come sooner. Sure, it might just be preseason football. We may be comparing ketchup to Sriracha, but after 6 long months without makes ketchup king.

Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game will feature the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings where former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis and former Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff will both be inducted into Canton’s Hall of Fame.

Now back to NFL preseason week 1. It  officially begins on Thursday, August 13th, but the early betting odds are out and here are my betting picks.

NFL Preseason Week 1 Betting Picks

New Orleans at Baltimore -3

The Saints won’t play Drew Brees, Mark Ingram, or C.J. Spiller too much in this matchup. Baltimore will play their terrific defense for most of the game.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Baltimore -3

New York Jets at Detroit -3

Even though Detroit has the much better offense, the New York Jets’ defense should be one of the best in the AFC. Defense rules during the NFL Pre-Season.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: New York Jets +3

Green Bay at New England -3

Coach Bill Belichick doesn’t put too much stock into pre-season games. Green Bay may try some things on offense with their second and third string QB.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Green Bay +3

Washington at Cleveland -2.5

Washington’s got some talented QBs on their roster. Cleveland has to play both Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel for a while because they haven’t settled on a QB. This is a toss-up. Go with the team getting points.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Washington +2.5

Miami at Chicago -1

Chicago should be able to cover a 1 point spread. It’s doubtful that the Dolphins play Ndamukong Suh for more than a series or 2.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Chicago -1

Dallas at San Diego -2.5

Dallas will be looking to get the running backs that replaced DeMarco Murray, including likely starter Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden, some work in this game behind their huge offensive line. San Diego is crazy if QB Phillip Rivers plays for more than a single series.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Dallas +2.5

Tennessee at Atlanta -3

QB Marcus Mariota has to play at least a half in this matchup, right?  He will be the starter and he’s never played in an NFL game. He needs the work. It’s going to take some time for Atlanta’s defense to gel. Mariota might look like a star in this game.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Tennessee +3

Carolina at Buffalo -3

Buffalo’s new coach, Rex Ryan, will want to make a great impression. Carolina won’t want something stupid to happen to quarterback Cam Newton.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Buffalo -3

New York Giants at Cincinnati -3

The Giants, for some crazy reason, always seem to do well in the preseason. Cincinnati will take it easy in this matchup.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: New York Giants +3

St. Louis at Oakland -1

In a 1 point spread, take the home team. Both of these squads will protect their starters. It can go either way. The Raiders will want to start the season on a winning note. They’ll be motivated to just win.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Oakland -1

Denver at Seattle -6

Neither team figures to put their best foot forward. Denver will always want to beat Seattle. It doesn’t matter if the two teams play each other in a game of hop-scotch. Plus, it’s ridiculous to give up 6 points in a pre-season game.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Denver +6

San Francisco at Houston -3

Houston will want their first team offense to get some work in. San Francisco’s defense isn’t very good while Houston’s defense, even the second string, should be great in 2015.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Houston -3

Kansas City at Arizona -2.5

Kansas City will rest all of their starters. So, will Arizona. The thing is that if Coach Reid plays Knile Davis, Jamal Charles’ back-up at RB, Arizona could lose this game straight up. Davis is that good of a player.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Kansas City +2.5

Indianapolis at Philadelphia -3.5

An over 3 point spread in an NFL Pre-season game doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s doubtful that Coach Chip Kelly is going to show all of his offense in the first pre-season game, anyhow. Take the Colts.

My 2015 NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Indianapolis +3.5
