The AFC is loaded with talented teams this season. 2016 could be a crazy year for the American Football Conference. 3 out of the 4 teams in the AFC North: Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Baltimore, are at 3 to 1 or less to win the division. New England faces 2 tougher foes in the AFC East, the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, then it has in years. Not only that but Miami has a new head coach who could really help QB Ryan Tannehill.
Does all of it means that the chalky Patriots could be in trouble? What other teams in the AFC have what it takes to beat down the Patriots?
Analyzing My 2016 AFC Expert Picks
The Odds-On Favorite To Win The AFC In 2016: New England Patriots +275
The Patriots are easily one of the top teams in the NFL this season. Even without Tom Brady for the first 4 games of the season, New England has what it takes to go 3 and 1, at the worst 2 and 2. That puts New England in the drivers’ seat in the NFL in 2016. The Pats didn’t have a first round draft pick. Yet, they managed to get a player like former Alabama great Cyrus Jones. Jones can play corner or safety. He’s also a seriously talented kick returner. I like how New England’s defense is shaping up. It’s hard for me to talk bad about any Super Bowl future bettors who like the Patriots at the low odds.
The Smart Bet To Win The AFC In 2016: Kansas City Chiefs +1200
The AFC West is shaping up as the toughest division in football. Along with KC, both Oakland and Denver are at +1200 to win the conference. Why the Chiefs? I just love how the team came together in full force last season. The Chiefs’ defense might be better this season than it was last season even though cornerback Sean Smith went to the Raiders. RB Jamal Charles returns. The offense is loaded. If the defense steps it up, the Chiefs could march to the Super Bowl.
The Longshot Bet To Win The AFC In 2016: Houston Texans +1800
I love how the Texans go into training camp. Houston did as much for its team during the off-season as any in the NFL. The Texans went all out by signing QB Brock Osweiler away from Denver as well as signing RB Lamar Miller away from Miami. Already, fantasy guys are saying how Miller might be the best NFL Fantasy running back this season. That’s a good sign for the offense. The defense came together nicely in the second half of the season. The D gave up 10 points or less in its last 6 regular season games. The odds are terrific. I’m taking a shot!
