The 2018 Super Bowl 52 Betting Favorite: New England Patriots 8/5
The New England Patriots deserve to be the favorites. I’m not even going to pretend that 8/5 constitute fair odds, though. The Patriots just aren’t a good enough team to get past the most important trend this season: no team has won back-to-back Super Bowls since 2004 and 2005.
Sure, the last team to do it were the New England Patriots. But, that doesn’t mean that they can do it again. New England doesn’t have a cushy game versus the Tennessee Titans in the Divisional Round. After that, they must face either Pittsburgh, who probably should have beaten them during the regular season, or the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jacksonville’s got the best pass defense in the NFL. Again, the Pats are a deserving Super Bowl 52 betting favorite pick. 8/5 odds are too low, though.
The 2018 Smart Pick To Win Super Bowl 52: New Orleans Saints 6/1
Minnesota is a 3/1 shot to win Super Bowl 52. I don’t believe the Vikings get past the Saints. New Orleans is loaded to bear after beating the Carolina Panthers in the Wildcard Round for the third time this season.
What Minnesota must worry about is how the Saints beat Carolina 31 to 26 even though the Panthers held the Saints to 41 rushing yards on 20 carries. It’s doubtful that two defenses in a row shut down both Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.
Even if the Vikings do shut down the run, the Saints must just turn to Drew Brees, who slung it all over the field versus the Panthers. Since I believe the Atlanta Falcons beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, there’s a good chance the Saints battle the rival Falcons in the Super Dome for the NFC Championship.
That makes the 6/1 odds on New Orleans a smart Super Bowl 52 bet with tons of value.
The 2018 Super Bowl Longshot Betting Pick: Jacksonville Jaguars 20/1
First, Jacksonville’s defense picked off Ben Roethlisberger 5 times in the Jags’ 30 to 9 win over Pitt in Week 5. Jacksonville’s D should be just as effective in the Divisional Round against Pittsburgh.
So, if the Jaguars beat Pitt, they battle either the New England Patriots or the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship. They should beat the Titans. Patriots’ QB Tom Brady hasn’t faced a defense quite as talented as Jacksonville’s yet this season.
I would still bet Jacksonville if they were listed at 10/1 betting odds to win Super Bowl 52. At 20/1 I am topping out my max Super Bowl 52.
