AAF Week 2 Odds & Betting Analysis

The Alliance of America Football league is a success. Almost 3 million of you football fans tuned in to the CBS opener of the AAF last Saturday even beating out the marquee prime time NBA matchup between the Thunder and Rockets. Now let’s take a closer look at the AFF Week 2 betting odds.

AAF Week 2 Odds & Betting Analysis

Salt Lake Stallions at Birmingham Iron
When: Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 pm ET
Where: Legion Field Stadium, Birmingham, AL
Spread: Birmingham -7½
O/U: 44.5

Analysis: It took former NFL running back Trent Richardson a while to get it going in the 26-0 win over Memphis, but get it going he did. More impressive if you’re a Birmingham Iron fan is how quarterback Luis Perez scrambled and controlled the game from the outset.

Memphis had no answer for Birmingham on either side of he ball in the Iron’s impressive 26-0 AAF Week 1 victory. Although Salt Lake should provide a much bigger challenge, Birmingham plays their first game at home on Saturday.

Also, Perez is a straight up football player. He’ll be the reason the Iron beat and cover against the Stallions on Feb. 16.

Pick: Birmingham Iron

Arizona Hotshots at Memphis Express
When: Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Liberty Bowl Stadium, Memphis, TN
Spread: Arizona -12½
O/U: 47

Analysis: Memphis showed a couple of things in AAF Week 1. The first thing they showed in the 0-26 loss to Birmingham is that home field in the Alliance of American Football doesn’t mean as much as it does in the NFL or college.

The second thing they showed is that bad quarterback play is bad quarterback play. It doesn’t matter if it’s in the NFL, CFL, or AAF. Memphis won’t suddenly get great play out of their quarterbacks after only 8 days.

Arizona’s the better team and could shut out the Express just like the Iron did. The Hotshots win in a blowout.

Pick: Arizona Hotshots

Orlando Apollos at San Antonio Commanders
When: Sunday, Feb. 17 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: Alamodome, San Antonio, TX
Spread: Orlando -6
O/U: 45

Betting Analysis: Coach Steve Spurrier showed that he’s still got some coaching left after the Orlando Apollos blasted the Atlanta Legends 40-6. Spurrier called a “Philly Special” to end the first half. Some have dubbed the play an “Orlando Special”.

Orlando’s victory showed that great coaching is still great coaching. Spurrier especially showed that he can get his quarterback, no matter who it is, to play great. Garrett Gilbert was sensational on Saturday.

While Orlando overwhelmed Atlanta, the Commanders played a much simpler game, using the clock and freeing up wide receiver McKale McKay, in their 15-6 win over San Diego.

The real reason San Antonio beat the Fleet is because of their defense. The Commanders should be ready for what Spurrier and the Apollos throw at them. San Antonio wins and covers.

Pick: San Antonio Commanders

Atlanta Legends at San Diego Fleet
When: Sunday, Feb. 17 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: SDCCU Stadium, San Diego, CA
Spread: San Diego -9½
O/U: 44

Betting Analysis: San Diego had a heck of a time moving the football against a stout San Antonio defense in Week 1. However, the Fleet get a chance to grab their first ever Alliance of American Football victory in Week 2 when they battle the Atlanta Legends.

Atlanta had no shot against Orlando in Week 1. The Legends entered the inaugural AAF season already going through a massive coaching change. So far, the team appears out of sync. They might get it together in the next 10 weeks enough to win a couple of games.

It won’t happen on Sunday, though. Even if San Diego doesn’t call a Philly Special, Orlando Special, or whatever special you can think of, they’ll use their defense to hold the Legends to under 10 points while scoring at least 24 to 30 on their end.

The Fleet sail to a win and cover.

Pick: San Diego Fleet
