AAF Week 3 Odds & Betting Preview
Arizona Hotshots -5 at Salt Lake Stallions
When: Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2:00 pm ET
Where: Rice-Eccles Stadium, Salt Lake City, UT
Betting Analysis: Arizona came back down to earth in their 20-18 win over the Memphis Express in Week 2. In Week 1, Zona had looked like the top team in AAF, dominating Salt Lake 38-28, but versus the Express, they didn’t look good at all.
In fact, it’s safe to say that if not for a 14 point fourth quarter outburst, the Hotshots might have lost straight up to Memphis as a massive -13.5 road favorite. Arizona faces a much tougher squad in Salt Lake in Week 3.
The Stallions took a 9-0 lead into halftime in their Week 2 battle against Birmingham. They probably should have won, but Birmingham outscored Salt Lake 12-0 in the second half. Still, the Stallions kept a decent offense from doing much.
Salt Lake should handle Arizona’s offense on Saturday. They’ll play their usual ball-control game and count on the Hotshots to make mistakes. It should work. Salt Lake beats Arizona straight up on Feb. 23.
Pick: Salt Lake Stallions +5
Memphis Express at Orlando Apollos -15
When: Saturday, Feb. 23 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Spectrum Stadium, Orlando, FL
Betting Analysis: Don’t be fooled by Memphis’ spirited play in the loss to Arizona. Sure, the Express looked good in spots and the defense stepped it up, but Memphis faces a major uphill battle against the 2-0 Orlando Apollos on Saturday night.
Orlando was down 29-17 before rallying for an impressive 37-29 win. So far, Orlando’s looked like the best team in AAF. There’s nothing Memphis should do on Saturday that will lead to an upset win. Orlando rolls.
Pick: Orlando Apollos -15
Birmingham Iron -7 at Atlanta Legends
When: Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Georgia State Stadium, Atlanta, GA
Betting Analysis: Like Orlando, Birmingham is also undefeated. But, the Iron had to rally against Salt Lake in Week 2. Luckily, they play the Atlanta Legends in Week 3.
Birmingham’s defense should have no trouble containing the Legends on Sunday. Salt Lake’s a very good team, one of the favorites to win the AAF before the season started and that’s why Birmingham had trouble moving the football.
While Atlanta’s better than many believe, they won’t stand up to the Iron on Feb. 24. Birmingham wins and covers.
Pick: Birmingham Iron -7
San Antonio Commanders at San Diego Fleet -2
When: Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: SDCCU Stadium, San Diego, CA
Betting Analysis: The Commanders appeared to have the game won before Orlando’s awesome rally. It’s hard to take too much away from the Commanders, though, who have a decent defense. But, San Antonio must figure out their quarterback position if they hope to beat San Diego on the road.
Starter Logan Woodside threw a pick 6 that tied the game at 29. From there, it was all over. Woodside’s pick 6 was on an errant out throw in the flat that cornerback Keith Reaser returned for the score.
Marquise Williams didn’t look any better than Woodside. The Fleet take this.
Pick: San Diego Fleet -2
