Panthers Host Falcons in Week 10 NFC South ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr, Hyde’ Bowl Matchup
One week the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers have the look of legitimate NFC title contenders and then the next two weeks, they look like expansion franchises that are both going to struggle to reach .500.
The Week 9 NFL betting line favors the Panthers by 1-point over the Falcons. Carolina will host Atlanta live from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte at 1:00 PM with this contest airing on FOX. Now, let’s find out which team is offering the best chance of cashing in on their NFL line.
Atlanta Vs Carolina Line & Betting Predictions
Atlanta Falcons (4-3) at Carolina Panthers (5-3)
When: Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET
Where: Bank of America Stadium
Stream: Fox Sports Go
NFL Odds: Carolina Panthers -1
Atlanta won their first three games of the season and looked like they were going to fulfill their odds as favorites to repeat as NFC champions this year – until losing their next three games while not topping the 17-point plateau in any contest. Now the Falcons are looking for consecutive wins again after squeaking past the mediocre Jets 25-20 last weekend but failing to cover the chalk as 6.5-point road favorites (as predicted).
Making matters worse is the fact that a Falcons team that led the league in scoring by putting up over 33.0 points per game a year ago, is suddenly a mediocre mess that is ranked a modest 15th in scoring by averaging just 21.9 points per contest. Following his league MVP season a year ago, veteran quarterback Matt Ryan is struggling with just nine TD passes this season and six costly interceptions
While all-world wide receiver Julio Jones is on pace to top the 1,000-yard plateau again this season, he also has just one touchdown reception with a modest 37 catches.
Carolina won their first two games of the season but didn’t look really good in doing so. Then in Week 3, the Panthers got routed by New Orleans 34-13 to cast doubt on their legitimacy as an NFC title contender. Then, after beating New England and Detroit the next two weeks, Carolina was back on track and looking good again – before losing to Philly and putting on a pitiful performance against Chicago in Week 7 to give their doubters more credibility.
Now, after putting a 17-3 beatdown on the struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend, everyone is wondering who the Panthers really are this season. Despite their winning record coming into this contest, quarterback Cam Newton leads the NFL in interceptions with 11, even though Atlanta’s Matt Ryan is tied for 10th.
While Carolina has gone 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games in November, the Panthers are also an uninspiring 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win and 0-4 ATS in their last four home games. However, with Atlanta going 0-4 ATS in their last four games, I just don’t have a whole lot of faith in either of these two ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ tea,s and neither should NFL bettors.
Right now, I’m thinking the best play for this Week 9 matchup is a simple pick for the Under 43.5 total points. The Falcons and Panthers are combining to average just 40.4 points per game while also allowing a combined 39.5 points per game defensively. The Under is 19-7 in Atlanta’s last 26 games in November and 3-1-1 in Carolina’s last five games against their NFC South division rivals.
With the Under going 15-5-2 in the last 22meetings between these two when they play in Carolina and a consistent 6-1-1 in the last eight meetings overall, I say play the Under 43.5 total points.
Pick: Under 43.5 Total Points
