The late game NFL Football spreads on Sunday are usually a rough ride for sports bettors, but Week 14’s schedule is ideal for those of you that love betting the home favorites. And I love all the home faves this weekend.
With playoff hopes lingering in each of these games, you can expect every one to play at full tilt, but problematic matchups are going to create havoc in the NFL post season picture. Let’s get to the games shall we?
NFL Sunday Football Free Picks – Late Games
Starts: 12/08/2013 4:20PM
ARIZONA CARDINALS -6.0 over St. Louis Rams
Kellen Clemens’ time as a fun, backup quarterback bet are over. His awful performance last weekend stymied the Rams in a 13-23 loss to the Niners, which is all fine and dandy. But I just can’t envision Clemens getting rolling against this fantastic Arizona defense. The Cardinals are a polished 4-1 SU and ATS in their last 5 games and are also 4-1 SU when playing at home. And with the playoffs within reach, you have to imagine that Bruce Arians will get the absolute best out of his rag tag group this weekend.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS -2.5 over Seattle Seahawks
I could write a novel about this particular matchup but I can also simplify it one sentence: the Seahawks are a front running team and they struggle when they can’t build a good lead. Want proof? They barely beat Tampa, St. Louis and Tennessee while losing outright to the Colts. None of those teams are legitimate contenders and the Seahawks have benefited from a crazy soft schedule this year.
The Niners are also going to enjoy having Michael Crabtree back for this game (and he looked great in his return last weekend). Throw out the 3-29 loss San Fran suffered against Seattle earlier this year. That game was delayed by rain for like two hours and it was a prime time game on the road. For all the doubts that have emerged about Kaepernick this season, the one thing you can’t hate on is his team’s ability to cover in games. San Francisco is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games and have demolished their last two opponents. Last weekend, the Seahawks cemented themselves as the team to beat. This week, it’s San Francisco’s turn.
DENVER BRONCOS -12.0 over Tennessee Titans
Everyone seems to be caught up in this whole idea that Denver can’t play in cold weather despite the fact they live in the Rocky Mountains. You know who else shouldn’t be good in cold weather climates? A team from the state of Tennessee! The Titans look like they’re falling off a cliff lately, and Denver is cruising on a strong 4-1 SU and ATS record. When they post as moderate favorites between -7.5 and -13.5, the Broncos are 3-1 ATS this season. So don’t fret this big number at all.
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS -3.0 over New York Giants
When they both entered the league via the draft, Philip Rivers and Eli Manning ended up being traded for each other. The move panned out very well for the Giants who have won two Super Bowls, but that doesn’t mean the swap was a total waste for the Chargers. Rivers has been undeniably great this season despite a less-than-average supporting cast.
People haven’t noticed because San Diego is just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last 5 games but they’ve also had some brutal matchups including Cincinnati, Kansas and Denver in those games. The Chargers are a notorious late season play, going 7-0 ATS in the last 7 years of Week 14 action, and should get back on the horse with a win over the Giants.
That being said, New York has been playing much more balanced football lately, going 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games. But last weekend they seemed very vulnerable in a questionably-called game against Washington. I don’t completely trust New York on the road. They’re just 2-3 SU in their last 5 away games and with such a tight line I expect Rivers to outduel Manning to close out this late game spread.
