Betting On The Seattle Seahawks Will Be The Smartest Bet You Make In 2014

The defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks will enter the 2014 NFL regular season looking to accomplish a feat that hasn’t been pulled off in nearly a decade – repeat as Super Bowl champions.

The last time a team won consecutive titles was back in 2004-05 when Tom Brady and the New England Patriots won the last of their three championships. Now, Russell Wilson, Richard Sherman and the rest of Pete Carroll’s squad will look to do the same and I believe they’ve got as good a shot as any league champion we’ve seen since 2005.

Betting On The Seattle Seahawks To Win the 2015 Super Bowl

Odds On Seattle Winning Super Bowl 49 +650

Let me begin by saying that Seattle (13-3 SU, 11-5 ATS, 6-10 O/U) is still young, vastly talented and apparently still quite hungry according to their players. Seattle ranked first in overall defense, allowing just 273.6 total yards per contest while also finishing first against the pass (172.0 ypg) and eighth against the run (101.6 ypg).

Not only did the Seahawks routinely shut down their opponents defensively, but they also ranked fourth in rushing (136.8 ypg) though their 26th-ranked passing attack could undoubtedly stand some improvement.

The good news for Seahawks fans is that, despite their lack of statistical success in the passing game, young quarterback Russell Wilson is undoubtedly one of the best signal-callers in the game today as he consistently makes big plays when he has to.

The Seahawks didn’t really lose much from last season’s roster, though wide receiver Golden Tate did bolt in free agency. Seattle added rookie wideout Paul Richardson with the 45th overall pick in the draft and re-signed veteran Sidney Rice. As well as adding Kevin Smith.

Seattle also re-upped all-pro safety Earl Thomas and beloved head coach Pete Carroll, so this is a team that will enter the 2014 regular season without any distractions.

At a value-packed +650, I believe the Seahawks are offering a ton of value for a team that looks like they’re going to have a great chance to defend their first league championship in franchise history.

Betting On The Seattle Seahawks To Win the NFC West

  • Seattle Seahawks +130
  • San Francisco 49ers +140
  • Arizona Cardinals +700
  • St. Louis Rams +700

Analysis: As much as I like the rebuilding and surprisingly competitive Arizona Cardinals, I’ve got to believe that the NFC West is ultimately going to turn into a two-team race between the Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers for the third straight season.

Both of these franchises and their now, widely respected head coaches, have simultaneously overhauled their respective rosters, filling them with some outright superstars and some other productive players in other cases.

In the end, I like the Seahawks to repeat as division champs mostly because I believe Seattle possesses the better defense and that Russell Wilson is a smarter and far more poised quarterback than Colin Kaepernick.

At +130, I like Seattle and their respectable odds to win the NFC West again in 2014. However, I will also admit that Arizona is offering a far better return at +700 for a team that could possibly pull off the division upset under all the right circumstances.

Betting On The Seattle Seahawks To Win In Week One

  • Green Bay at Seattle -5.5
  • Over/Under 44.5

Analysis: While I absolutely love quarterback Aaron Rodgers and I believe the Green bay Packers are going to really contend this season, I have to back the Seattle Seahawks to win their 2014 opener, as they deliver a message to the rest of the league that they ‘re anything but a one-hit wonder.

The last time these two teams met back in September of 2012, Seattle walked away with a narrow 14-12 home win that helped them cash in as a 3-point underdog that day.

Not only that, but Seattle compiled a league-best 11-5 ATS mark a year ago while Green Bay went a modest 8-7-1 SU and 7-9 ATS in an injury-filled campaign that saw several of their key contributors miss time.

More importantly, I’m not sure that Green Bay has improved their 25th-ranked defense enough to beat a Seattle team I expect to be a bit more balanced on offense this season.

The Packers drafted safety Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix with the 21st pick in the first round and defensive end Khryi Thornton in the third round and also added veteran defensive end Julius Peppers, but I think it’s going to take some time before Green Bay ‘s defense improves.

Seattle went 5-3 ATS at home last season while Green Bay went 4-4 ATS on the road. I like Seattle to make a bold statement in Week 1 to cover the spread with just a bit of room to spare.

My Pick: Seattle -5.5 Points

Seattle Seahawks Betting Tips

  • Did You Know that the Seattle Seahawks played Under their O/U Total in a blistering seven of their last eight games last season?
  • Seattle ‘s defense limited the opposition to 17 points or less in seven of their last eight games last season and covered the spread a whopping 10 times as a favorite.
  • I like Seattle to rout Dallas at home in Week 6 and Oakland in Week 9 while getting in a pair of low-scoring divisional matchup in Weeks 7 and 8.
  • Seattle has gone a consistent 13-7 SU and ATS over its last 20 as a favorite of six points or less and an impressive 8-2 SU and 7-3 ATS over its L/10 games against its NFC West division rivals.

In the end, I think Seattle is a great team to back again this coming season. Seattle should once again be one of the top two contenders to win the NFC Championship, Super Bowl 49 title and NFC West title as well.
