The Tennessee Titans (7-9 SU, 6-8-2 ATS, 9-6-1 O/U) will enter the 2014 regular season headed in a new direction under head coach Ken Whisenhunt after failing to reach the postseason under former head coach Mike Munchak.
Whether the Titans can accomplish their quest remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – this team is facing an uphill battle
With the start of the annual preseason period set to get underway this coming week, let’s get started with this expert look at the Titans’ chances for success in the 2014 NFL regular season.

Betting On The Chicago Bears To Win the 2015 Super Bowl
- Tennessee Titans NFL Odds to win Super Bowl 49 are +10000
Analysis: The Titans haven’t been in the postseason since 2008 when they won the AFC South with a blistering 13-3 regular season. Since then, Tennessee has managed to reach nine wins just once (2011) and things don’t look any better as they get set for the start of the 2014 NFL regular season.
Unfortunately, the Titans have far, far more questions than answers at this point, starting with oft-injured quarterback Jake Locker.
Tennessee finished the 2013 season ranked 21st in passing and 14th in rushing, while also ranking a very respectable 11th against the run and 20th against the pass.
No matter what their statistics from lasts season say, this dysfunctional team isn’t going to sniff a postseason appearance in 2014, let alone, a playoff appearance.
My Pick: Don’t waste your time with Tennessee on their Super Bowl futures odds.
Betting On the Tennessee Titans To Win the AFC South
- Indianapolis Colts -175
- Tennessee Titans +550
- Jacksonville Jaguars +1400
- Houston Texans +250
Analysis: The Titans went 2-4 SU and 1-4-1 ATS against their AFC South division rivals last season and I think they’ll post a similar record this coming season with both, Indianapolis and Houston likely being better than they were a year ago.
Tennessee has racked up a pitiful 3-7 SU and 2-7-1 ATS mark over their last 10 games against their division rivals, so I wouldn’t go around expecting this team to unseat Indianapolis – or my pick for second place ( Houston ) for that matter.
The fact of the matter is that Tennessee needs fourth-year quarterback Jake Locker to stay on the field after watching him play in just 23 games in three seasons.
Even Whisenhunt says that Locker’s health this season is crucial.
“I think there have been signs of him starting to play well, especially at the start of last season,” Whisenhunt said. ”It’s (his injuries) been one that’s been frustrating on a lot of fronts for a lot of people, Jake included.

"But aside from that, he has a lot of the qualities, the abilities you like in that position. And if he can do it at a level that you feel he was progressing to last year, there’ll be a lot of excitement about the future."
Sounds like a bunch of wishful thinking if you ask me.
Projected Order of Finish: Colts, Texans, Titans, Jaguars
Betting On the Tennessee Titans to Win In Week One
- Tennessee Titans at K.C. Chiefs -6
- Over/Under 43.5
Analysis: The Titans look like a virtual lock to lose this contest straight up while failing to cover the spread as well.
Tennessee is 4-6 SU and a respectable 5-4-1 ATS in its last 10 road games but the Titans are also a bad wager when they’re underdogs of six points or more.
Tennessee has gone 3-7 SU and ATS in its last 10 games as a puppy of six points or less while the Chiefs have gone 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite of eight points or less.
I like the Chiefs to win and cover the spread against a Titans team that is just 2-8 SU and 3-7 ATS over its last 10 games as a dog of eight or less points.
My Pick: Kansas City Chiefs -7 Points
Tennessee Titans 2014 Betting Tips
- In addition to its own division games, the AFC South teams will face the NFC East and AFC North in 2014.
- Tennessee has gone 7-3 SU and ATS in their last 10 games against NFC East teams and 5-5 SU and 6-4 ATS in their L/10 games against teams that reside in the AFC North.
- I like the Titans to put a bunch of points on the board against Dallas, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Washington and Houston.
