Browns Vs Jets Online Spread Betting Pick & TV Info

This game features two squads with never ending QB drama. It will be the 3-point underdog Cleveland Browns visiting MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets. The game kicks off on CBS this Sunday, Sept 13th at 1:00 PM ET. Cord-cutters can stream the game thanks to CBSsports.com.

For the Browns, it was a long off-season with a certain QB whose off-the-field issues dominated the news cycle in Northeast Ohio. Now tendinitis in his right (throwing) elbow may keep Manziel out of the season-opener. On Monday, he was throwing passes at practice for the first time in two weeks. He said he’d be ready to back up starter Josh McCown come game time.

“No [doubt], not in my mind,” Manziel was quoted by Cleveland.com. “Not in anyone else’s either.”

The Jets lost Geno Smith to a teammate given broken jaw and will turn to journeyman QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to start the season. Rookie Bryce Petty will back him up and Smith will be watching in street clothes.

Since 2010 these two franchises have met twice with the Jets winning and covering both games. Four of the last five meetings have gone UNDER the game total set by NFL oddsmakers. The last time these two squads faced off was in 2013 and the Jets won by a score of 24 to 13.

Fast forward to 2014. The Browns had the 23rd-ranked total offense, 20th through the air and 17th rushing. QB John McCown (2206 yards, 11 TDs & 14 INTs with Tampa Bay in 2014) is expected to start the 2015 season under center. But the talk for the Browns will be about backup Johnny Manziel (175 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs).

The Browns backfield is as deep as a puddle after a summer’s rain. It will be sophamore rusher Isaiah Crowell (148 att, 607 yards, 8 TDs) and rookie RB Duke Johnson from Miami, Florida as the only two RBs on the roster. The Browns brain-trust dumped RB Terrance West to the Titans earlier this week.

With WR Josh Gordon suspended from for the season, it will be cast offs Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline catching balls this season.

Cleveland Browns
2014 Offensive Leaders 2014 Defensive Leaders
QB Brian Hoyer (3326 yds, 12 TDs, 13 INTs) DB Donte Whitner (106 tackles)
RB Terrance West (673 yds, 4 TDs) CB Buster Skrine (4 INTs)
WR Andrew Hawkins (824 yds, 2 TDs) LB Paul Kruger (11.5 sacks)

The Jets were hopeful to turn the page this season, but after a dysfunctional offseason the Jets are the same ol’ Jets. The Jets had the 22nd-ranked total offense. Last through the air and a surprising third at rushing.

QB Geno Smith’s (2525 yards, 13 TDs, 13 INTs, ESPN’s 35.4 QBR) had a new weapon added to his arsenal with the addition of former Pro-Bowler Brandon Marshall (61 rec, 721 yards & 8 TDs with the Chicago Bears in 2014). He won’t get a chance to play again this season after his broken jaw handed the starting gig over to Fitzpatrick.

The Jets added depth in the backfield, but some will question the talent. Former Ram Zac Stacy (76 att, 293 yards, 1 TDs) will join Chris Ivory (198 att, 821 yards, 6 TDs) and Billal Power in the backfield. The other newcomer to the Jets backfield Stevan Ridley (94 att 340 yards 2 TDs) will start the season on the PUP list.

The Browns defense was ranked 23rd in 2014, 8th against the pass and dead last at stopping the run. Cleveland used seven picks in 2015 NFL Draft to bolster the defense.

The Jets D was ranked 6th best in the NFL during last year. They were 14th against the pass and at 5th stopping the run. The additions of CB Darrelle Revis, CB Antonio Cromartie, and first round pick DE Leonard Williams should make this unit a lot better.

New York Jets
2014 Offensive Leaders 2014 Defensive Leaders
QB Geno Smith (2525 yds, 13 TDs, 13 INTs) LB David Harris (124 tackles)
RB Chris Ivory (821 yds, 6 TDs) CB Jaiquawn Jarrett (2 INTs)
WR Eric Decker (962 yds, 5 TDs) DT Sheldon Richardson (8.0 sacks)

Cleveland was 9-6-1 ATS in their last 16 games of the regular season, 5-2-1 ATS away from home and 7-2 ATS playing as underdogs, 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog,4-1 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf, and 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September.

New York is 6-9-1 ATS in their last 16 regular season games, 3-5 ATS playing at home and 1-4 ATS as favorites,1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite, and 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September.

60% of the betting public is backing the Browns and so am I. My NFL week 1 winning pick is the Browns at +3 to beat the Jets in their season opener. My final score prediction is Cleveland 20 and New York 14.
