Can You Bet On Tampa Bay To Cover The 3.5-point Spread Against The Dolphins
It’s the Jamies Winston Show in the Sunshine State.
Tampa Bay’s best chance of covering the spread versus inter-state rival Miami in Week 4 of the NFL Pre-season is to run the football. The Buccaneers need to have to a good rushing attack this season in order to keep defenders away from top draft pick QB Jameis Winston. If Winston faces too much pressure, his development as a starter in the NFL will be greatly hindered.

Versus Cleveland, in a terrible 7 to 31 loss to the Browns in Week 3, Tampa running backs averaged 3.7 yards per carry. They rushed for only 73 yards on 20 carries. But the week before, Tampa running backs rushed for 145 yards on 37 carries for a 3.9 average. The Buccaneers won that game 25 to 11.
It’s doubtful that starter Doug Martin gets the bulk of the carries in the final NFL Pre-season game this week. Winston as well as his top 2 wide receivers is likely to sit this one out. What it means is that Mike James, Charles Sims and possibly Bobby Rainey need to step it up in order for Tampa to cover the spread.
Can You Bet On Miami To Cover The 3.5-point Spread Against The Bucs
Suh’s impact on Dolphins defensive line bodes well for season.
Arguably the most important free agent pick-up during the off-season was Ndamukong Suh going from the Detroit Lions to the Miami Dolphins. Suh is the best defensive player in the NFL after Houston’s JJ Watt. Some football analysts make Suh second to only J.J.Watt’s mantle of top defensive player.
Suh isn’t likely to play in the game versus Tampa Bay on Thursday. Without Suh the rest of the defensive line is going to have to really step it up. Playing Suh makes no sense since the Dolphins will need him during the regular season. Their entire defensive scheme rests on Suh’s ability to take on double-teams thereby freeing up other players to get to the quarterback or to stuff the run.

If the Dolphins are able to stop Tampa QB Mike Glennon, who is one of the better back-ups in the NFL, from getting off short passes, and the Dolphins’ D can stop Tampa’s rushing attack without Suh, Miami should easily cover the spread in this matchup. If that happens, not only will Miami cover the spread in this matchup, but they’ll give their fans a lot to look forward too once the season starts.
I am picking the Bucs to beat the Dolphins by a final score of Tampa Bay 28, Miami 17.
