The aging Pittsburgh Steelers (8-8 SU, 9-7 ATS, 8-8 O/U) will enter the 2014 regular season with one singular goal in mind – getting back into the playoffs after falling short the last few season. This look at the Steelers’ upcoming 2014 campaign will help you in your efforts to cash in on Pittsburgh ‘s season-long Super Bowl 49 futures odds, their AFC North division odds and their Week 1 regular season opener.
With the start of the annual preseason period set to get underway this coming week, let’s get started.
Betting On the Pittsburgh Steelers to Win Super Bowl 49
- Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Odds to win Super Bowl 49 are +3300
Analysis: The Pittsburgh Steelers could get back in the postseason again this coming season, but I don’t think they’re ready to leap past teams like new England or Denver in their quest to represent the AFC in Super Bowl 49, which is why I’m going to encourage you t save you money on the Steelers against their odds to win the Vince Lombardy Trophey.
The Steelers finished the 2013 season ranked 12th in passing, but an awful 28th in rushing, so it should be interesting to see how much Pittsburgh can improve their rushing attack in 2014, though veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger believes his team is going to contend this coming season.
"I know I’m 10 years in the league. But I’m only 32," Roethlisberger said recently. "We’ve got a good blend of young and second-year guys. I’m excited about this team. If we can stay healthy, we can be pretty good."

Roethlisberger may very well be right, but I don’t think the Steelers will be able to improve enough in one offseason to challenge the more elite teams in the conference.
Betting On the Pittsburgh Steelers to Win the AFC North
- Cincinnati Bengals +185
- Pittsburgh Steelers +225
- Baltimore Ravens +240
- Cleveland Browns +600
Analysis: I’m going to get right to the point by saying that, outside of Cleveland, all three residents of the AFC North could potentially win the division title in 2014.
Over the last 10 years, Pittsburgh has won the division four times, Baltimore three times and Cincinnati , twice, so again, any team outside of rebuilding Cleveland , could win the AFC North in 2014. Personally, I like the Cincinnati Bengals to finish first, but they’re certainly no lock even if they are favorites.
Both, Roethlisberger and head coach Mike Tomlin say the team is focused on taking care of its own business and is not concerned with all the focus on their division rivals, mostly Cleveland and polarizing rookie signal-caller Johnny Manziel.
"It doesn’t bother me because I’d rather slide under the radar," Roethlisberger told reporters last week. "I’ll let them have all the attention and we’ll just go to work. We just want to be the best team we can be. And we’ve got them in (Cleveland Browns) Week 1."
"I don’t care what the Joneses got going on to be honest with you," Tomlin told USA TODAY Sports after his team’s first padded practice. "I don’t spend a lot of time focusing on that."
Pittsburgh went 4-2 SU and a scorching 5-1 ATS against their division rivals last season while also going 7-3 ATS in their L/10 games against their AFC North division rivals. Make no mistake about it…the Pittsburgh Steelers are definitely worthy of a bet to win the AFC North.
My Pick: Bet the Steelers to win the AFC North
Pittsburgh Stellers Odds To Win In Week One
- Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers -5.5
- Over/Under 40.5
I know the Cleveland Browns are in the midst of a massive roster overhaul that includes them eventually turning over the reins to rookie quarterback, but I’m backing the Steelers to win and cover the spread in this AFC North division battle.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five games against the Browns and are 3-0 SU and ATS in the last three meetings overall. The Steelers handled the Browns 27- 11 in Cleveland as a 2.5-point underdog in November before handing the Browns a 20-7 beat-down four days after Christmas to cash in as a 9.5-point favorite.
I suspect the Steelers realize to a man, that they can not afford to lose games against opponents they are ‘supposed’ to beat and their winning ways will start in their home and regular season opener.
My Pick: Pittsburgh Steelers -5.5 Points
Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Tips
The Pittsburgh Steelers have won five of their last six home games while recording an identical 5-1 ATS mark over the stretch, so look to cash in on them early and often at home in 2014.
While I just picked Pittsburgh to knock off Cleveland in its 2014 regular season opener, let me also say that you should probably be a bit careful when betting on the Steelers as favorites.
Because Mike Tomlin’s team is just 5-5 SU and ATS in its L/10 games as a ave.
The Steelers are 4-1 SU and ATS in its last five games against NFC South opponents as they get set to face that division in 2014. Surprisingly, Pittsburgh is just 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS against the AFC South as they get set to face all four teams from that division this year.
