On paper, it looks like the Carolina Panthers will have a easy outing this week to boost their undefeated record to 9-0 when they face the turbulent Tennessee Titans. The NFL week 10 betting odds list the Panthers as 4.5-point favorites to beat the Titans.
Carolina is coming off of an impressive win over the powerhouse Green Bay Packers. Their offense is powered by MVP candidate Cam Netwton, a league leading rushing attach and an elite defense. The Titans, on the other hand, are sputtering along. They have a franchise QB in Marcus Mariota and not much else. The Tennessee brain-trust recently fired long-time head-coach Ken Whisenhunt due to his inability to protect his QBs.

The Carolina Panthers are 8-0 straight up and 6-2 against the spread so far this season. They average 28.4 points (4th), 216.6 passing yards (27th), 142.2 rushing yards (1st) per game. Last week the Panthers beat a reeling Packers team by a 37-29 score.
Against Green Bay, Newton completed 15-of-30 for 297 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 57 yards and another touchdown on nine caries. He is the prime reasons the Panthers are so close to securing home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. All other NFC teams have at least two losses, including the Packers (6-2).
”There was a Green Bay banner in Bank of America Stadium – and that just doesn’t match,” Newton said. ”… We take pride in having an edge and playing in Bank of America Stadium and playing in front of the Carolinas every week, and it’s something that I feel it was my due diligence to protect” the stadium.

Report in the Fayetteville Observer, the owner of the banner reported Newton’s actions and told stadium police it was stolen. He said he paid $500 to have the banner made, and he wants it back.
On the season, Newton has thrown 1820 yards, 14 touchdown, and nine interceptions, completing 53.7% of his passes. Newton has an 81.3 passer rating and has added 343 rushing yards, and five touchdowns.
TE Greg Olsen (37 rec, 584 yards, 5 TDs) has been Newton’s top target and has emerged as a top tier tight end. Behind him there is a lack of production. WR Ted Ginn Jr. (21 rec, 363 yards, 3 TDs) has caught only three passes for 14 yards in the last two games. Corey Brown (16 rec, 225 yards, 3 TDs) has found the end zone in both of the last two games, but hasn’t done much else.
With Newton doing most of the rushing, starting RB Jonathan Stewart (147 att, 571 yards, 3 TDs) averages only 3.9 yards per carry. He has one game with a 100-yards game in the entire season.
Carolina’s defense allows 20.6 points (11th), 217.0 passing yards (6th) and 142.2 rushing yards (32nd) per game. Thomas Davis has 65 tackles, Kawann Short has six sacks, and Josh Norman has four interceptions.
If You Are Betting On The Tennessee Titans Odds At +4.5
The Tennessee Titans are 2-6 straight up and 4-4 against the spread so far this season. They average 19.9 points (2nd), 229.9 passing yards (22nd), 101.6 rushing yards (20th) per game. Last week the Titans beat the defensively challenged Saints by a 34-28 score. The clutch play of Mariota was in large part responsible for the win.
“I just like being called Marcus,’’ Mariota said when he was asked if was time for him to given a nickname for his clutch play. “That’s who I am, and that’s the name by parents gave me, and that’s kind of what I go by.”
Mariota (1610 yards, 13 TDs & 5 INTs) passed for a personal-best 371 yards and four touchdowns, the biggest of which would be a 5-yard strike to TE Anthony Fasano in overtime. The win snapped a six-game skid that cost Whisenhunt his job.
On Wednesday, Mariota was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his heroics against the Saints. He’s just the second rookie quarterback to be named player of the week twice since the awards were instituted in 1984. The other was Robert Griffin III.

“It is an honor,’’ Mariota said. “I can’t thank my teammates enough. The offensive line did a great job on Sunday and everybody deserves that recognition, and we’re thankful for it.”
TE Delaine Walker (42 rec, 456 yards, 3 TDs) had seven receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns last week and has been Mariota’s top target all season. WR Kendall Wright (28 rec, 343 yards 3 TDs) and Mariota are beginning to develop chemistry.
RB Antonio Andrews (73 att, 290 yards, 2 TDs) is the team’s rushing leader and is currently slated as the starter.. He ran for 88 yards in 19 carries against the Saints. Rookie rusher David Cobb was activated this past week after being on the IR all season. Bishop Sankey (39 att, 159 yards, 1 TD) and Dexter McCluster (46 att, 210 yards, 0 TD) have been relegated to garbage time carries and special teams.
Tennessee’s defense allows 23.4 points (15th), 230.0 passing yards (11th) and 101.6 rushing yards (13th) per game. Zach Brown has 51 tackles, Brian Orakpo has five sacks, Coty Sensabaugh has five passes deflected.
