The Denver Broncos are coming off an ugly 6-point win over the Baltimore Ravens. Fourteen-time Pro Bowler Peyton Manning had a dismal outing. He went 24-for-40 passing for 175 yards and a 59.9 passer rating.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs surprised the Houston Texans on the road to win by a 27-20 score against a top five defense.

Why Bet On Denver to Beat Kansas City (-3)

Denver’s defense might be the best unit in the NFL.

When it comes to Fantasy Football, Peyton Manning has been a mainstay for years. He’s often the first or second quarterback chosen in most every FF draft. That wasn’t the case in FF Drafts this season.

Now we know the reason why. Even though Gary Kubiak is known as an offensive coach, Peyton didn’t do much versus Baltimore’s defense. He was absolutely terrible, to be honest. Manning completed only 60% of his passes for 175 yards. He threw a single TD and an interception. And today Peyton popped up on the Broncos injury report, making the Broncos a tough bet this week.

What was great for Denver in their game against Baltimore was their defense. The Broncos’ defense held the Ravens’ to 73 total rushing yards and 100 total passing yards. Denver’s D is why they won the game. They decimated Joe Flaaco. He played like a rookie in the game when throwing 2 picks and only 117 yards and no TDs. If the defense is as good versus Alex Smith and Kansas City on Thursday, it’s going to be difficult for the Chiefs to have much success on offense. If the D is strong, Denver has a good chance of upsetting the Chiefs.

On offense, Denver will have to stick with the rushing attack. RB C.J. Anderson didn’t have a great game versus Baltimore. Still, Denver can’t get into a track meet with KC or they’ll wear out their fantastic defense.

Why Bet On Kansas City (-3) to Beat Denver

Kansas City’s offense is balanced now with WR Jeremy Maclin.

Kansas City’s offense was one dimensional in the passing game last season. The only target that QB Alex Smith had any faith in was TE Travis Kelce. Based on Kansas City’s victory over Houston, a 27 to 20 win as a 1 point road favorite, Kelce is still going to be a huge part of the offense.

Kelce caught all 6 of his targets for 106 yards and 2 TDs. But, the stat line implies that Kelce remains Smith’s top target. That’s not really the case. Smith targeted Jeremy Maclin 9 times. Maclin caught 5 of those passes for 52 yards. Sure, Maclin didn’t have as great of a game stat wise as Kelce did, but he demanded more attention than Kelce.

Maclin’s presence makes Kansas City much more balanced on offense. They can run the football with Jamal Charles and they can pass the football to Charles. Maclin automatically becomes a guy that Chief opponents have to pay attention too. He opens things up for everybody else. It’s difficult to see Denver having much of a chance at stopping the KC offense.

My free pick are the Chiefs to beat the Broncos and the over-42 as the smart bet in this NFL week 3 matchup. My final Score prediction is Kansas City 27, Denver 17.
