NFL Spread Betting Tips On QBs

Early NFL 2016 Week 1 Free Picks

The dog days of summer are upon us. It is all about BBQs, ice cream and little league. That leaves the football season still months away. The 2016 NFL season kicks off on Thursday, September 8th with a Super Bowl 50 rematch between the Carolina Panthers and the defending champion Denver Broncos minus two QBs plus one Sanchez. Then on Sunday, 13 games will kick-off, leaving two MNF games.

A Closer Look At My Early NFL 2016 Week 1 Free Picks

Who: Carolina Panthers at Denver Broncos
When: Thursday, September 8, 2016
Start Time: 8:30 PM ET
Where: Denver, CO
Stadium: Sports Authority Field at Mile High
Spread: PK
Game Total: 43
Watch: NBC
Stream: NBC Sports Live
Listen: Carolina vs Denver

This line opened with the Super Bowl champions Broncos as three-point favorites, but everyone jumped on the Panthers. Could it be that no one has faith in QB Mark Sanchez?

I am picking QB Cam Newton and Carolina Panthers to spoil the Broncos’ party on opening night.

Pick: Panthers straight up.

Who: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Atlanta, GA
Stadium: Georgia Dome
Spread: Falcons -3
Game Total: 48
Watch: FOX Sports
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: Tampa Bay vs Atlanta

QB James Winston won both games against the Falcons last season in his rookie year. With a full season under his best the chemistry with his receivers can only improve.

Pick: Bucs +3.

Who: Minnesota Vikings at Tennessee Titans
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Nashville, TN
Stadium: Nissan Stadium
Spread: Vikings -3
Game Total: 43
Watch: FOX Sports
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: Minnesota vs Tennessee

Just like Winston, QB Marcus Mariota should be better in his second year, but will he have the weapons he needs to succeed. After trading the number one spot NFL draft pick away to the St. Louis Rams for draft picks galore, the Titans have an excellent opportunity to improve their team on multiple fronts. Tennessee is 3-0 on opening weekend in the last three seasons and my NFL week 1 pick is for the Titans to push that record to four.

Pick: Titans +3.

Who: Cleveland Browns at Philadelphia Eagles
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Philadelphia, PA
Stadium: Lincoln Financial Field
Spread: Eagles -7
Game Total: 45
Watch: CBS
Stream: CBS Sports
Listen: Cleveland vs Philadelphia

Can new head coach Hue Jackson save RGIII’s career and turn around the Browns franchise into a winner all at the same time? History points to no. But at least, Cleveland will be fun to watch.

On the flip side, Philadelphia will be picking up the pieces left in the wake of the failed Chip Kelly experiement. No QB, no RB, no WRs. Seven points is a huge spread to bet on while backing the Eagles so I am picking the dysfunctionals Dawgs.

Pick: Browns +7.

Who: Cincinnati Bengals at NY Jets
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: East Rutherford, NJ
Stadium: MetLife Stadium
Spread: Bengals -1
Game Total: 43
Watch: CBS
Stream: CBS Sports
Listen: Cincinnati vs NY Jets

Both the Jets and the Bengals are potential NFL playoffs teams. However, at the time of writing only the Bengals know who will be behind center at kick-off for this game.

Pick: Bengals -1.

Who: Oakland Raiders at New Orleans Saints
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: New Orleans, LA
Stadium: Mercedes-Benz Superdome
Spread: Saints -1.5
Game Total: 51
Watch: FOX Sports
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: Oakland vs New Orleans

I can’t stress enough the Raiders are only a 1.5-point underdog on the road when facing the Saints’ offense led by QB Drew Brees. Things have changed in Oakland. Several great draft picks including QB Derek Carr, WR Amari Cooper and LB Khalil Mack have made the Raiders winner again.

The Saints are old.

Pick: Raiders +1.5.

Who: San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Kansas City, MO
Stadium: Arrowhead Stadium
Spread: Chiefs -7.5
Game Total: 43
Watch: CBS
Stream: CBS Sports
Listen: San Diego vs Kansas City

Over the last two seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs have swept the Chargers both straight-up and against the spread. The Chargers can’t give QB Philip Rivers enough weapons to succeed.

Pick: Chiefs -7.5.

Who: Buffalo Bills at Baltimore Ravens
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Baltimore, MD
Stadium: M&T Bank Stadium
Spread: Ravens -3
Game Total: 44
Watch: CBS
Stream: CBS Sports
Listen: Buffalo vs Baltimore

The Ravens 2015 season was de-railed due to injuries. Buffalo will begin its second season under head coach Rex Ryan. I am picking the Bills with the points.

Pick: Bills +3.

Who: Chicago Bears at Houston Texans
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Houston, TX
Stadium: NRG Stadium
Spread: Texans -5.5
Game Total: 44.5
Watch: FOX Sports
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: Chicago vs Houston

The Houston Texans paid all that money to Brock Osweiler to win. They will expect that out of the gates versus a Chicago Bears’ team that should show an improved defense with John Fox leading the team into his second season as head coach. second season of head coach John Fox.

Pick: Bears +5.5.

Who: Green Bay Packers at Jacksonville Jaguars
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 1:00 PM ET
Where: Jacksonville, FL
Stadium: EverBank Field
Spread: Packers -4.5
Game Total: 47.5
Watch: FOX Sports
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: Green Bay vs Jacksonville

People can’t sleep on the Jaguars. They have a talented young roster, especially on the offensive side. They added RB Chris Ivory to the backfield in free agency. But their defense can make the Jags into the next Panthers with the return of DE Dante Fowler Jr and the additions of DE Malik Jackson & CB Price Amukamara.

Pick: Jags +4.5.

Who: Miami Dolphins at Seattle Seahawks
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 4:05 PM ET
Where: Seattle, WA
Stadium: CenturyLink Field
Spread: Seahawks -7.5
Game Total: 44
Watch: CBS
Stream: CBS Sports
Listen: Miami vs Seattle

There couldn’t be a worse way for head coach Adam Gase to make his debut as the Dolphins head-coach. On the road versus Seattle. The Seahawks brought back CB Brandon Browner to reunite the entire Legion of Boom that won Super Bowl XLIX.

Pick: Seahawks -7.5.

Who: NY Giants at Dallas Cowboys
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 4:25 PM ET
Where: Arlington, TX
Stadium: AT&T Stadium
Spread: Cowboys -4
Game Total: 49
Watch: FOX Sports
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: NY Giants vs Dallas

The Giants had a six-game losing streak to the Cowboys before winning their last matchup. New York won’t have the luxury of playing against Matt Cassel this time.

Pick: Cowboys -4.

Who: Detroit Lions at Indianapolis Colts
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 4:25 PM ET
Where: Indianapolis, IN
Stadium: Lucas Oil Stadium
Spread: Colts -6
Game Total: 49.5
Watch: FOX Sports
Stream: Fox Sports Go
Listen: Detroit vs Indianapolis

In the first game of the Post Megatron Era and facing an Indianapolis Colts that will have QB Andrew Luck back equals a long afternoon for Detroit. My NFL betting pick is Indy.

Pick: Colts -6.5.

Who: New England Patriots at Arizona Cardinals
When: Sunday, September 11, 2016
Start Time: 8:30 PM ET
Where: Glendale, AZ
Stadium: U of Phoenix Stadium
Spread: Patriots -1
Game Total: 51
Watch: NBC
Stream: NBC Sports Live
Listen: New England vs Arizona

Right out of the gate, DE Chandler Jones will have a chance to face his ex-teammates in New England. The Patriots are loaded on defense with the addition of defensive tackles Terrance Knighton and Chris Long on defense. New WRs Nate Washington and Chris Hogan will join an already talented receiving corp.

Pick: Patriots -1.

Who: Pittsburgh Steelers at Washington
When: Monday, September 12, 2016
Start Time: 7:10 PM ET
Where: Landover, MD
Stadium: FedEx Field
Spread: Steelers -3.5
Game Total: 51.5
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: Pittsburgh vs Washington

It’s unlikely that RB Le’Veon Bell will be ready for the season opener after missing most of the 2015 season with a nasty knee injury. The Steelers won’t need him to leave Washington with a win.

Pick: Steelers -3.

Who: St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers
When: Monday, September 12, 2016
Start Time: 10:20 PM ET
Where: Santa Clara, CA
Stadium: Levi’s Stadium
Spread: Rams -2
Game Total: 44.5
Watch: ESPN
Stream: Watch ESPN
Listen: Los Angeles vs San Francisco

Which QB will the L.A. Rams draft at number one? Jared Goff or Carson Wentz?

Can Chip Kelly make the San Francisco 49ers watchable again? Make them winners?

This is a marquee matchup between two under-achieving teams because of the visiting teams move to the biggest sports market this side of the Mississippi and the home teams new head-coach. My NFL betting pick in this tilt is the Rams.

Pick: Rams -2.
