2017 NFL Week 2 Expert Picks

Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) at Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)
When: Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois
TV: FOX
Stream: Fox Sports Go
NFL Odds: Chiefs -5
Total: 47.5

No team looked better than the Kansas City Chiefs in the opening week of 2017 action. They dismantled the defending Super Bowl champs by a score 42-27 on opening night.

This week the Chiefs must figure out how to protect Alex Smith from a strong Eagles D and open up running lanes outside for rookie running back Kareem Hunt, who found success on the edges in Week 1. The rookie picked up 11 yards on three inside rushes. Outside the tackles, however, Hunt rushed 14 times for 137 yards.

The Chiefs offensive line fared well against the Patriots, consistently providing time for Smith to find open receivers.

Can we expect the Week 1 Chiefs team to take the field this week? Or will it be the team that is always the bridesmaid and never the bride? In Week 2 they face the Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia beat Washington on the road last week. The D held QB Kirk Cousins & co to just 17 points. Their defense is underrated and ready to ascend to a top-tier billing. The Eagles present a tough, physical pressure defense that will test the nimble and athletic Chiefs offensive front. That puts pressure on Smith and his receivers to get rid of the ball quickly.

Most early NFL Week 2 bets have come in on Kansas City because they took down the Pats. You always ride the hot hand. However, I am recommending your NFL Week 2 bet back Philadelphia. The Eagles are 4-1 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 5-0 ATS in their last five games in September. That should be enough to convince you why the Eagles are my first NFL Week 2 expert pick.

2017 NFL Week 2 Expert Pick: Eagles +5.

Dallas Cowboys (1-0) at Denver Broncos (1-0)
When: Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 4:25 PM ET
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois
TV: FOX
Stream: Fox Sports Go
NFL Odds: PK
Total: 42

The Broncos, didn’t look great on Monday Night Football while beating the Chargers 24-21. A late game blocked field goal is the only reason Dever is 1-0. QB Trevor Siemian was sacked four times by the Bolts after throwing two touchdowns and one interception.

Denver’s top-tier D limited Chargers running back Melvin Gordon, who had had more than 200 yards rushing in two games against the Broncos last season, to 54 yards rushing last week even though their defensive line was depleted by injury. Can Von Miller and company do the same against last season’s top rusher?

“He’s poised back there and he just doesn’t look like a second-year player,” Miller said of Prescott. “Last year, he didn’t look like a rookie. He has one of the best, if not the best, offensive lines blocking for him and one of the best, if not the best, running back behind him.

Less than two weeks ago the Cowboys were preparing to play this game without Ezekiel Elliott. The rusher is coming off a 104 yard game against the Giants and is ready to face one of the toughest defenses in the league.

“That’s what we expect every week,” Elliott said. “We’re going to run the football. We’re going to show you different looks, but it’s going to be the same four plays. It’s going to be you versus us. You’ve got to stop us. You’ve got to be better than us.”

Denver will put a lot of bodies in the box trying to stop Elliott. That will leave either WR Dez Bryant or TE Jason Witten with a bit of breathing room making Dallas my expert pick for NFL Week 2 action.

2017 NFL Week 2 Expert Pick: Cowboys -2.5.

Green Bay Packers (1-0) at Atlanta Falcons (1-0)
When: Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 8:30 PM ET
Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA
TV: NBC
Stream: NBC Sports Live
NFL Odds: Falcons -2.5
Total: 53.5

The Packers are out for some payback against the Falcons after the latter ended the former’s Super Bowl LI dreams just eight months ago. Neither team showed particular playoff prowess in their opening weekend games, but both teams are undefeated.

Green Bay struggled offensively last week against Seattle. If not for an untimely mistake by QB Russell Wilson to get the offense going, the Packers would have lost. Atlanta’s defense speed will be an issue for Aaron Rodgers and company.

Falcons are 6-2 ATS in their last eight vs. NFC and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games in Week 2. That is why Atlanta is my last expert pick for NFL Week 2 action.

2017 NFL Week 2 Expert Pick: Falcons -2.5
