NFL Expert Picks Preseason Week 2Josh Bailey
There are interesting matchups in NFL Preseason Week 2. Who wins in a Florida throw down between Tampa Bay and Jacksonville? That game takes place on Thursday. On Friday, Minnesota travels to Seattle. Can the Vikings beat the Seahawks on the road? The game I like on Saturday has Denver throwing down against the San Francisco 49ers. Will the Niners or the Broncos show up in that battle?
NFL Preseason Week 2 Picks
Tampa Bay at Jacksonville
When: Thursday, Aug. 17 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: EverBank Field, Jacksonville, FL
Odds: Jacksonville -3
Analysis: Tampa Bay lost 12 to 23 versus Cincinnati in NFL Preseason Week 1. But, the Bucs had more first downs 23 to 19, than the Bengals did. Tampa Bay also racked up 224 passing yards.
If anything, the Buccaneers should pass more in this Preseason Week 2 game. Jameis Winston might get more snaps. The Buccaneers offense should move the ball more easily. Tampa Bay should just play better.
Although all that’s true, I still like Jacksonville in this game. The Jaguars rushed 37 times for 207 yards versus the Patriots’ defense. 79 of the yards came on one Corey Grant rush. Still, I believe the Jaguars’ commitment to the run game is a sign they win this one going away.
Minnesota at Seattle
When: Friday, Aug. 18 at 10:00 pm ET
Where: CenturyLink Field, Seattle, WA
TV: NFL Net
Odds: Seattle -3
Analysis: Minnesota beat Buffalo 17 to 10 in NFL Preseason Week 1. The takeaway from that game is that Minnesota’s D is as good this season, maybe even better, then it was last season.
It’s difficult to see Seattle putting up much of a fight in this game. The Seahawks are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season. All their starting positions, as far as I know, have been filled.
Seattle figures to give workmanlike snaps to Russell Wilson, Eddie Lacy, and the starters on D before pulling everyone. At that point, Minnesota takes charge of the game.
I think Minnesota beats the Seahawks straight up in this one.
Pick: Minnesota money line
Denver at San Francisco
When: Saturday, Aug. 19 at 10:00 pm ET
Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
TV: NFL Net
Odds: San Francisco -2
Analysis: Denver beat Chicago 24 to 17 in NFL Preseason Week 1. The Broncos’ defense allowed 173 rushing yards from 36 attempts. Denver should make more of a concerted effort to stop the rush in Week 2.
The 49ers beat Kansas City 27 to 17 in their first game this NFL Preseason. San Francisco rushed 36 times for 188 yards. Matt Barkley completed 10 of 17 for 188 yards. It doesn’t look like SF is shelving the regular season playbook during the preseason.
What it means is that no matter what Denver does, SF should beat the Broncos by at least 6 points.
Pick: San Francisco 49’ers
