NFL Preseason Week 3 is among us. During Week 3, most NFL Teams keep their starters in for at least 3 quarters. That should cause some teams to have an advantage over other teams. Will Miami hold sway over Atlanta in the Florida Citrus Bowl on August 25? What will happen when preseason Super Bowl 51 favorites New England and Carolina clash in Charlotte? Can Tennessee get its rushing attack back on track versus Oakland up in NoCal?
A Closer Look At My NFL Expert Picks Preseason Week 3
Atlanta at Miami
When: Thursday, Aug. 25 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Florida Citrus Bowl
Odds: Miami -2.5
Analysis: The Atlanta Falcons travel to Miami to battle the Dolphins in a nationally televised Week 3 NFL Preseason game on Thursday, August 25. The Falcons have so far gone 2 and 0 straight up in the preseason. Atlanta appears much more in sync than they were towards the end of last season. The key will be if they can keep it up once the regular season starts.
I think that chinks in the Falcons’ armor come through this Thursday in their game on the road versus the Fins. Miami gave up 41 points to the Cowboys in a 14 to 41 loss in Week 2 NFL Preseason. The Dolphins should bounce back with a much better game, more akin to their Week 1 NFL Preseason 27 to 10 win over the Giants. If Miami puts their starters in for 3 quarters, they could dominate the Falcons.
New England at Carolina
When: Friday, Aug. 26 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte
Odds: Carolina -3.5
Analysis: Who knows if Tom Brady will get the start? Whether he does or not, the Pats have looked too good to not take the points in their matchup with the Carolina Panthers in this Friday’s, Aug. 26, preseason game.
Everyone on New England’s team has played hard in the teams’ first 2 NFL Preseason games. The Patriots won both of the games, 34 to 22 over New Orleans and 23 to 22 over Chicago. Carolina has looked good in 2 preseason games, one a win the other a loss. Both teams could win this. The key to me are the 3.5 points that the Panthers are giving to the Patriots.
Pick: New England
Tennessee at Oakland
When: Saturday, Aug. 27 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland
Odds: Oakland -3
Analysis: Tennessee’s rushing attack came back down to Earth in Week 2. After a great NFL Preseason Week 1 where the Titans rushed for 288 yards on 33 carries, Tennessee only rushed for 94 yards on 26 carries in a 16 to 26 loss to Carolina in Week 2. Then again, both DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry only had 5 carries each. The Titans handed the ball off to 9 different ball carriers in the game. If not for a -11 yard carry by T. Sharpe, the totals would have amounted to 26 carries for 105 yards.
That’s over 4 yards per carry while giving the football to your 2 best running backs only 10 times in the game. I think Tennessee could rush up and down the field against Oakland’s defense in this mtchup. The Raiders allowed Green Bay to rush for 145 yards from 40 carries in Week 2. Oakland gave up 172 yards from 35 carries to the Cardinals in Week 1.
I like the Titans to win this battle ATS.
