NFL Week 17 Expert Picks

Green Bay Packers (7-8) at Detroit Lions (8-7)
When: Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET
Where: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
TV: FOX
NFL Odds: Detroit -7.5
Total: 42.5

Analysis: The Packers have nothing left to play for and they have no hope of beating Detroit in their regular-season finale as long as mediocre quarterback Brett Hundley is under center. Yes, Detroit pulled off a serious choke job this past weekend as they blew their slim opportunity to keep their postseason hopes alive, but Matt Stafford and company will at least close out their regular season with an emphatic win over the hated, division rival Packers.

Pick: Detroit -7.5

Chicago Bears (5-10) at Minnesota Vikings (12-3)
When: Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET
Where: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
TV: FOX
NFL Odds: Minnesota -12.5
Total: OFF

Analysis: The Vikings still have a lot to play for in their regular-season finale as a victory would assure them of a first-round bye while Chicago is likely playing its last game under lame duck head coach John Fox (I’m 90 percent certain). Sure, Chicago beat Cleveland 20-3 this past weekend to improve to 2-1 over their last three games, but with the Vikings playing their starters until a victory is assured, you had better believe there’s no way the lowly Bears are winning this contest. As far as the high, double-digit spread is concerned, Minnesota has spanked both, Cincinnati and Green Bay the last two weeks, so I’m expecting this to be their third straight blowout win over a mediocre opponent!

Pick: Minnesota -12.5

Washington Redskins (7-8) at N.Y. Giants (2-13)
When: Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET
Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
TV: FOX
NFL Odds: Washington -3
Total: 38.5

Analysis: Kirk Cousins and the Redskins looked pretty good in their 27-11 Week 16 beatdown over a Denver Broncos team that has clearly packed it in this past weekend while Eli Manning and the Giants lost their fifth straight by getting shutout by Arizona 23-0. Washington will win this game as and cover the small spread, simply because they probably really want to finish at 8-8 while New York limps into the offseason with some massive question marks, starting with, who’s going to replace Manning next season?

Pick: Washington -3
