Can the New York Giants Cover the 3-point Spread versus Cincinnati?
If healthy the G-Men are a serious Super Bowl contender!
The Giants have a lot of talent at the wide receiver position. Odell Beckham Jr burst into the NFL last season by grabbing 91 receptions for 1,305 yards, scoring 12 touchdowns and recieving offensive ROY honors. Victor Cruz is healthy this season. In 2012, Cruz caught 86 passes for 1,092 yards and 10 touchdowns.
But, this is the first NFL preseason game of the year for the Giants. It’s unlikely that the back-up quarterbacks, Ryan Nassib, will air it out to Beckham Jr or Victor Cruz. It’s more likely that offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo is going to call a lot of run plays. McAdoo needs to get fist round draft pick Erick Flowers up to speed at the left tackle position. Flowers has to be NFL speed ready in Week 1 of the regular season if the G-Men hope to have any shot of winning the NFC East over Dallas and Philadelphia. If Flowers and his fellow offensive linemen open up holes for the Giants’ running game, NYG should be able to cover the spread versus Cincinnati.
Can The Cincinnati Bengals Cover the 3-piont Spread versus the New York Giants?
Is this Andy Dalton’s last crack at becoming eliete in Cinci?
As is the case for most teams in the first NFL preseason game of the year, Cincinnati starting QB Andy Dalton is expected to only play a series or two versus the New York Giants on Friday, Aug. 14. The man listed as the back-up on the depth chart is former Alabama great A.J. McCarron. McCarron has looked inconsistent in practice and recently soreness has kept him on the sidelines. He remains confident according to numerous reports, but he hasn’t been as sharp as Coach Marvin Lewis needs him to be.
The Cincinnati offensive line will have to protect McCarron for the Bengals to cover the spread in this matchup. McCarron will get a lot of time to improve in the very first NFL preseason game. It’s not likely that Cincinnati drops the former Crimson Tide QB since they spent a fifth round draft pick on him, but he’s a rookie. He’s likely to make mistakes as is in this matchup. If the Bengals’ offensive line doesn’t protect him, there is no way that he’ll help them to a cover ATS.
The third string QB on the depth chart, Josh Johnson, should get some playing time in the fourth quarter. Johnson’s been in the league for 7 years. But, same goes for Johnson. Without protection, he won’t help Cincinnati cover the spread in this matchup.
NFL 2015 Preseason Week 1 Final Score Prediction: New York Giants 20, Cincinnati Bengals 9
The Giants are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games on turf. The Bengals are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 home games. The underdog is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
