Bet The Green Bay Packers Because…
Green Bay is $23.8 million under the salary cap meaning that they should be able to field an awesome team from the outset next season. Expect Green Bay to sign a seriously talented free agent defensive star, probably from Denver, who will play some in this game. Green Bay’s defense could be deep enough, if the front office utilizes the $23.8 million wisely, to rough up Indianapolis’s offensive line. Even if Indy puts together a decent offensive line, it won’t be ready by August. 7 to handle Green Bay’s D.
Bet The Indianapolis Colts Because…
Indy back-up QB Matt Hasselbeck or Josh Freeman should do a decent job in this game. It’s doubtful that QB Andrew Luck plays more than a series, if that. Luck got beat up last season because of the Colts’ offensive line issues. Indy won’t take the chance of putting Luck in harm’s way in the first pre-season game of the year. Hasselbeck, whom the Colts will have to resign, threw for 1690 yards and completed over 60% of his passes spelling Luck in 6 games last season. Freeman threw for 149 yards and tossed a TD pass in the Colts’ Week 17 30 to 24 win over the Tennessee Titans last season.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
The problem with betting on NFL Pre-Season Games is that we don’t really know the motivation behind the coaching staffs. Luckily, in this case it may not matter. Indy has the more experienced back-up quarterbacks in Hasselbeck and Freeman, but Green Bay has the QB with the better upside in former UCLA standout Brett Hundley.
Not only that, but Green Bay’s ability to spend freely this off-season means that the Packers, if anything, will build depth at RB and on their defensive and offensive lines. When it comes to second stringers battling third stringers, Green Bay should come out on top.
