Bet The Green Bay Packers -1 Because…
Aaron Rodgers should now kick it into gear. Rodgers has had a very un-Aaron like season. He hasn’t produced a triple-digit QB rating since Week 4 of the season. But if any QB in the NFL can turn it on when he absolutely has to, it’s Rodgers. Expect Rodgers and Coach Mike McCarthy to have something special planned on Sunday. WR Randall Cobb should be healthy enough to figure into those plans. Washington’s defense allows a 25th ranked 258 passing yards per game on average. Rodgers to Cobb could exploit Washington’s secondary.
“I think it helps everybody, but you have to be realistic with fresh starts. I think you have to have fresh starts for the right reasons,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “The things that we’ve done wrong are just as important as the things we’ve done right. It’s what we need to focus on because when you win, you can’t just sweep the things you didn’t do right until the rug.”
Bet The Washington Redskins +1 Because…
QB Kirk Cousins has played like the league MVP the past 6 weeks. The light bulb finally went off for Kirk Cousins. Up until Week 12, Cousins had produced only 3 triple-digit QB ratings. He produced 6 straight QB ratings starting in Week 12. Cousins’ numbers ended up being ultra-impressive for the regular season. He completed close to 70% of his passes. He threw only 11 interceptions, 9 of which came before Week 12, to 29 TD passes. He threw for 4166 yards. If Cousins is hot, Green Bay might not stand a chance on January 10.
“If you start saying, `This is the biggest game of your life,’ you don’t want people to get too tense around here,” coach Jay Gruden said. “I think you have to prepare like you’ve been preparing.”
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
I’m not sure why handicappers are giving Green Bay the benefit of the doubt. That’s not to write that this won’t be a close game. It will. But by the final whistle Washington will be ahead. What this game comes down to is which offense is more balanced and who has the hotter QB. Neither defense figures to put up much of a fight. The winning team will have the QB that throws the most strikes. That should be Cousins and Washington. He’s just been unbelievable lately. It helps that Cousins has a decent RB in Alfred Morris to take off some of the pressure. It will be raining, but it shouldn’t be too cold with a high of 56. Cousins should be able to play well under those conditions.
My final score prediction is Washington 34, Green Bay 30.
