After Dez Bryant’s TD was called back due to the "Calvin Johnson Rule", Green Bay beat Dallas last Sunday while Seattle absolutely pummeled Carolina in order to march on to their second straight NFC Championship Game.

Seattle beat Green Bay 36 to 16 in Week 1 during the regular season. Will history repeat itself or will Green Bay find a way to upset the more than touchdown favorite Seattle and stamp their ticket to the Super Bowl? The denfending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks were a 13.5 point favorite versus Carolina in their Divisional Round game this past Sunday. Seattle absolutely demolished the Panthers 31 to 17 to cover the spread. There are a few things about that game, which will ultimately lead some football handicappers, a big majority of 66%, in to backing Green Bay against the spread on Sunday.

The first thing that happened is that the vaunted Seattle defense allowed the Panthers to rush for 132 yards on 30 carries. That is an average of 4.4 yards per carry. The reason that the stat is important is because the Seattle Seahawks only allow 81.5 yards per game on the ground on average. Seattle’s defense is ranked third in the NFL against the rush. Green Bay has a powerful rushing game with Eddie Lacy who is as close to “Beast Mode” as a running back is going to get not named Marshawn Lynch. Lacy rushed for 101 yards against Dallas’ defense from only 19 carries the Packers 26 to 21 win.

The other reason that most football handicappers feel that the Packers will keep this game close has to do with how Seattle defended against the pass versus Carolina. The Seahawks allowed Cam Newton to throw for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns. Seattle did force Newton into 2 interceptions. The first went to must-avoid CB Richard Sherman and the other was run back by Kam Chancellor for a pick 6, but, here’s the thing, nobody on the planet who knows football will ever say that Cam Newton is as good of a QB as Green Bay signal-caller Aaron Rodgers.

The logic is that if Seattle allowed Carolina to rush for so many yards and Newton to throw for so many yards, what is one of the best offensive teams in the NFL going to do to Seattle’s defense?

Although the logic is sound, in reality, Seattle’s D matches up better with Green Bay’s offense than it did with Carolina’s. First, Rodgers most likely will still be suffering from the calf injury that he re-injured against Tampa Bay in Week 17. With a busted calf, Rodgers won’t have the same mobility that he usually has. Second, Seattle is a terrific 5-2-1 against the spread in their home games this season while Green Bay is a woeful 3 and 5 against the spread in their road games this season.

Green Bay actually lost to Seattle, Detroit, New Orleans and Buffalo this season. They only beat Miami and Minnesota by 3 points on the road, 27 to 24 versus Miami and 24 to 21 versus Minnesota. Green Bay just isn’t the same team at home that they are on the road.

Seattle has home field advantage in this one and no matter what Green Bay Coach Mike McCarthy says; Rodgers should not be at 100% by this Sunday. Although the betting line is above a touchdown and extra point, Seattle is the free pick to cover the spread in the NFC Championship Game.
