Clemson and Alabama will face off in the desert for the national championship after dominating wins in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Tigers romped in the second half for a 37-17 win over No. 4 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, followed by an even more dominating performance in which the Crimson Tide thumped No. 3 Michigan State 38-0 in the Cotton Bowl.

Bet The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide -6.5 Because…
Alabama is the best team in the nation. Since losing 37 to 43 to Ole Miss on September 19, Alabama has been on a roll. The Crimson Tide covered the spread in 5 out of its last 6 games. This includes the Tide’s awesome 38 to 0 beat down of Michigan State. In that game, Alabama’s offense reigned supreme through the air. Since the Spartans’ defense wanted to stop Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry, Alabama QB Jake Coker torched the MSU defense for 286 yards and two touchdowns. Alabama’s defense allows less than 71 yards per game on the ground.
“Clemson is a great team, undefeated, a great program,” Saban said. “I’m sure our guys will be motivated, trying to do the best they can to play the best they can in the game. It’s a great opportunity for them. I’m proud as hell of them to get where they are.”
Bet The No. 1 Clemson Tigers +6.5 Because…
Clemson is a team of destiny. The Tigers went into this season as the second choice to win the ACC. Florida State was the first choice. It didn’t matter to Clemson. All the Tigers did was beat Notre Dame 24 to 22, Miami on the road 58 to 0, North Carolina State on the road 56 to 41, Florida State 23 to 13 and North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game 45 to 37. As a +4 point dog in the CFP Semifinals, Clemson destroyed Oklahoma 37 to 17. Name another team that has ever beaten Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami and Oklahoma in the same season.
“I knew that we would be here,” coach Dabo Swinney said. “It was just a matter of when.”
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
Clemson may be a team of destiny, but this is the National Championship. Alabama has been a team of destiny since Bear Bryant was their coach. As good as Clemson has been this season, they face a team in on an almost pro like level in the Crimson Tide.
Alabama’s defense might be the best college football defense in 10 years. The Crimson Tide is equally adept at shutting down the pass and the run. Things wouldn’t be so bad for Bama’s opponents if they didn’t have the Heisman Trophy winner carrying the football or a QB that could light it up with one of the best wide receivers in the game, Calvin Ridley. The game should be close for a while and Clemson is going to score more points on Alabama than any team other than Ole Miss this season. At the end of the day, though, Clemson will fold after facing the dominant Alabama Crimson Tide.
My final score prediction is Alabama 42, Clemson 30.
