How To Bet The Super Bowl 50 First Half Spread

With Super Bowl 50 week upon us every one wants every insider betting edge and win big.

In both of their post-season games, the Carolina Panthers have roared to an early lead by scoring efficiently and superb special teams play. Can they do that again against the league’s top defense?

That league leading D belongs to the Denver Broncos. The Broncos had 52 sacks in the regular season, most in the NFL, and then rode the defense to Super Bowl 50 after holding the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots to 34 total points in a pair of playoff victories. The performance against the Patriots was especially impressive as Broncos defenders hit quarterback Tom Brady 20 times and intercepted him twice.

Bet The Carolina Panthers 1st Half Spread at -3.5 Because…

Carolina usually runs out to a big half time lead before playing catch me if you can in the second half. The Panthers went up 31 to 0 over the Seattle Seahawks by half time in their 31 to 24 Divisional Round win over the Seahawks. The Panthers went up 24 to 7 by halftime in their eventual 49 to 15 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game. Carolina likes to build a big lead going into half time. At that point, it’s up to their opponents to step up and make a game of it.

Bet The Denver Broncos 1st Half Spread at +3.5 Because…

Denver’s defense is not Seattle’s or Arizona’s defense. Denver has the best defense, statistically, in the NFL. Denver’s defense is ranked first in total yards allowed at 283.1 per game. Denver’s defense is ranked first in passing yards allowed at 199.6 yards per game and sixth in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game at 83.6. More importantly, Denver allowed Pittsburgh to go into halftime with 10 points in their 23 to 16 win over the Steelers in the Divisional round. The Broncos allowed the Patriots to score only 9 points by halftime in their 20 to 18 win over New England in the AFC Championship Game.

Expert Pick & Final Halftime Score Prediction

The halftime line makes this tough. Carolina is used to putting up a lot of points in the first half. But, Denver’s coaches have an entire 2 weeks to figure out how to contain Panthers’ QB Cam Newton from using his feet to run away from the Denver defense.

The 2 weeks should also allow Denver to get its players healthy on defense. The Panthers should be able to move the football. Once the offense gets into the red zone, it might be tough to score touchdowns. I like Denver to have the lead going into halftime.

My final halftime score prediction is Denver 10, Carolina 9.
