With Week 2 Mismatch on Hand, Can Carr and Raiders Cover Spread Against Lowly Jets
With a clear-cut mismatch on hand in Week 2, the question that NFL betting enthusiasts need answered is quite simple. Can Derek Carr and the offensively-explosive Oakland Raiders cover the spread as nearly two-touchdown home favorites against the lowly New York Jets?
Let’s find out now what’s going to happen when this game goes down on Sunday at 4:05 PM ET, live from the Oakland Coliseum with this matchup airing on CBS.

Why Bet the New York Jets Line at +13.5
The Jets were on the wrong end of a humbling 21-12 Week 1 loss against AFC East division rival Buffalo in their regular season opener as veteran quarterback Josh McCown completed 26 of 39 passes for a modest 187 yards with no touchdowns and two costly interceptions.
The Jets also allowed a league-high 190 rushing yards to Buffalo, including 110 to Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy. Now, the Jets get to face former Pro Bowl running back Marshawn Lynch who looked good in his first game since coming out of retirement to sign with his hometown Raiders.
Not only did the colorful former Seattle Seahawks star make some fun-filled hand gestures to the cameras, but he also rushed for a solid 76 yards in his debut with the Raiders while pulling off one ‘Beast Mode’ run by barreling over 300-pound defensive tackle Jurrell Casey.
"I was like, this is a guy who just retired and re-entered the league and he’s still one of the top running backs," New York defensive end Leonard Williams said. "It’s pretty amazing to see that."
"He looks better than ever," Jets head coach Todd Bowles added. "He actually looks quicker. Laterally, he looks just as good as he always has."
Why Bet the Oakland Raiders Line at -13.5
The Oakland Raiders had a solid performance on both sides of the ball in beating Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans 26-16 in Week 1 as Derek Carr completed 22 of 32 passes for 262 yards and a pair of touchdowns while getting the previously mentioned solid outing of running back Marshawn Lynch.
Veteran wide receiver Michael Crabtree caught a team-high six passes for 83 yards while fellow wideout Amari Cooper hauled in five passes for 62 yards and one score. No. 3 wideout Seth Roberts added a touchdown grab in the win while Oakland’s defense limited Mariota to 25 for 41 passing with no touchdowns.
Now, Oakland is focused on Week 2 even though they know they’re playing against an overmatched opponent in the Jets.
"Game 1, Game 1. Like (Patriots coach Bill) Belichick, we’re on to next week," said last season’s NFL Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack.
New York Jets Vs Oakland Raiders NFL Week 3 Analysis and Prediction
Well, again, there’s no sense in beating around the bush by throwing out a lot of mostly meaningless ATS trends when the bottom line for this Week 2 pairing is that the Jets certainly won’t be able to keep pace with Carr and Oakland’s explosive offense, nor will they be able to stop their Week 2 opponents.
The Jets are just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against their AFC counterparts while Oakland has gone4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 7-3 ATS in their last games against teams from the AFC. In short, I’ll be completely and utterly surprised if the Raiders don’t have this game well in hand by the time halftime rolls around. Don’t worry about the nearly two-touchdown spread, Oakland will win and cover it!
Pick: Oakland -13.5
