Can Kansas City Cover The 2.5-point Spread To Beat the Rams?
Andy Reid + Jamaal Charles + Jeremy Maclin = ???
The Kansas City defense really stepped it up in the first 3 NFL Pre-season games. The defense dominated the Arizona Cardinals in a 34 to 19 victory. The Chiefs held the Cardinals to a 2.8 rushing average, 75 yards from 27 carries. Cardinals’ quarterbacks completed only 16 of 34 attempts, less than 50%, in the game.
Versus the defending NFC Champion Seahawks in the second pre-season game, the defense was even more impressive. QB Russell Wilson completed only 9 of 15 passes. His average per pass was a paltry 5.2. The KC D held Seattle’s running backs to a 3.1 average, 78 yards from 25 carries. In the third NFL Pre-season game, the Chiefs’ D rocked it again. Tennessee, with ahead of the curve QB Marcus Mariota under center, could score only 10 points. KC’s defense held Titans’ quarterbacks to a 12 out of 25 performance.

What chance does St. Louis, a team that as of yet hasn’t scored more than 14 in a single pre-season game have versus Kansas City’s defense? The Rams don’t have much of a chance. Kansas City is going to rest their starters, but the second and third string defenders should totally outmatch St. Louis’s second and third stringers on offense. If that happens, KC will cover the spread easily in this matchup.
Can St. Louis Cover The 2.5-point Spread To Beat the Chiefs?
When will we see rusher Todd Gurley?
Both Case Keenum and Sean Mannion can really throw the football. Starter Nick Foles isn’t likely to see a single snap in this matchup. Keenum and Mannion should battle it out to see who will be Foles’ back-up.
If Coach Jeff Fisher allows both guys to throw the football, St. Louis might finally score more than a couple of touchdowns in this game. It’s the only shot that St. Louis has of covering the spread against an excellent Kansas City defense. Keenum went 12 out of 18 for 83 yards versus Oakland in the Week 1 pre-season contest. His average of 4.9 per pass will need to be much higher in this matchup.
Versus Tennessee, Keenum was only 10 out of 16 but he threw for 164 yards. His per pass average of 10.2 was excellent. Mannion passed for 93 yards versus the Titans when going for 6 out of 7. His per pass average was an awesome 13.3. If both guys step it up versus Kansas City and go for the long pass plays, the Rams might find a way to cover the spread in this game.

My pick to win this matchup is Kansas City with a final score prediction of KC, 31 to St. Louis, 17.
