Stafford and Lions Looking Good With Rodgers Sidelined for Packers in Week 9 NFC North Division Matchup
Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions should be thanking their lucky stars that Aaron Rodgers is out of the lineup for the Green Bay Packers when they meet for their Week 9 NFC north divisional matchup on Monday night. The Week 9 NFL betting line favors the Lions by 2.5-points over the Packers.
Now, let’s find out why Stafford and the Lions are looking like a virtual lock to take out Green Bay when this game goes down live from Lambeau Field at 8:30 PM ET while airing live on ESPN.

The Lions have lost three straight games and come into their Week 9 matchup against Green Bay off a 20-15 home loss to Pittsburgh last weekend. Still, Detroit hasn’t been completely awful in dropping two of their last three games by five points or less, although they did get smacked around badly in their 52-38 Week 6 road loss at Detroit.
There’s some good news too in the fact that Matthew Stafford has been pretty solid this season by completing 60.4 percent of his passes for 1,851 yards with a dozen TD passes and just four interceptions. One of Detroit’s problems has been that they are unbalanced offensively in ranking an uninspiring 28th in rushing despite Stafford’s solid season passing the rock.
The Packers have lost two straight and just don’t have much hope right now after losing their superstar quarterback against Minnesota three weeks ago. Green Bay is well-rested after getting a timely bye last weekend following their 26-17 home loss against New Orleans in Week 7. Backup quarterback Brett Hundley didn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence in that contest as he completed just 12 of 25 passes for 87 yards with no touchdowns and one interception, although the former UCLA star did rush three times for 44 yards and one score.
The best scenario right now is for the Packers to lean on their rushing attack more, but it’s kind of hard to see that happening with the Pack ranked 18th in rushing and their team rushing leader, Aaron Jones having recorded just 346 yards and three touchdowns on the year.
In the end, the Packers are going to be up against the wall for as long as Rodgers is out, seeing as how they depended on their superstar signal-caller to make play after play for the last few seasons now.
The Lions may be 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Green Bay and they may have just one road win over the Packers dating back to 1991, but Detroit is desperate right now and they are the clear-cut pick to get the road win in this Week 9 matchup with Green Bay missing Aaron Rodgers.
Pick: Detroit -2.5
